Regine Velasquez Shares Son Nate Is Her Legacy

Regine says that she has accepted that people will forget about her and her voice

Regine Velasquez revealed that amid the achievements she has in the music industry, it is her son Nate Alcasid that she declares as her enduring legacy.

She opened up about this during her acceptance speech at an awards night recently.

Para po sa akin, ang akin pong legacy ay ang aking anak because people will forget about me, will forget about my voice, and what I’ve done in the industry, but my son will always remember me. So, my son is my legacy,” Regine said after accepting the Powerhouse Award at the Billboard Philippines Women in Music event.

Regine acknowledged that fame is temporary and that her lasting impact in the industry is uncertain.

But while fans seem to disagree with Regine’s sentiments, she reiterated that she has accepted the reality that her contributions may eventually fade from everyone’s memory.

Parati, kapag may nagtatanong sa akin kung ano ‘yung iiwan kong legacy sa industriyang ito, parang feeling ko wala.

Sa akin po kasi, hindi masyadong importante kung meron man akong maiwan o wala. I know na makakalimutan ako kasi ganun ‘yun. And it’s fine. It’s fine with me because ganun po talaga ang panahon, ganun po talaga ang industriya and it’s not your fault, it’s just what it is.

Siyempre, ibinibigay natin ang entablado sa mga sumusunod na henerasyon ng mga singers at songwriters,” she concluded, embracing that the ever-evolving scheme of the music industry.

Regine’s struggles as “artistang medyo luma na”

In her speech, Regine also addressed the challenges faced by female artists as they age in the industry.

She said, “Bilang isang artista na medyo lumang tao na, nagsimula ako na pinakabata at ako ngayon ang pinakamatanda. Ang saya. I have to say na being in this industry, getting older is a challenge, especially for women.”

On top of the physical and hormonal changes, the spotlight also fades, and Regine has acknowledged that.

The Asia’s Songbird said, “First of all, mahirap sa aming mga kababaihan kasi mayroon kaming mga hormones. We have to deal with those things, it changes our voices and it changes our appearance.

“You know, ang dami-dami namin kailangan harapin. Pero sa industriyang ito, mahirap kapag tumatanda ka na sa industry.

Nakikita mo na nagbabago na ang lahat, ‘yung dating ikaw ‘yung sinisigawan, ikaw ‘yung nagkakaroon ng hits, then nararamdaman mong unti-unti na hindi na ikaw. But for me, it’s fine,” she ended.
