David Licauco Hopes To Win Best Actor Award Someday

David’s goal is to win Best Actor for his performance in “Pulang Araw”

From someone who was bent on quitting showbiz, it seems like David Licauco has his eyes set on a new goal: to win a Best Actor award.

He believes that he can snag this recognition with his performance in the upcoming Kapuso primetime series “Pulang Araw.”

David was straightforward to talk about his new goal and character in an interview with FreebieMNL and other reporters at the April 17 media conference of “G! LU” at KAO Manila, Newport World Resorts.

He said of his new project, “Sobrang excited ako doon, siguro ang goal ko doon, maging Best Actor, e. So, sana mabigyan ng recognition.”

But David knows that he wouldn’t get that recognition without putting hardwork. Now, he is just grateful to GMA-7 and Sparkle for being given a platform to hone his craft.

The 29-year-old actor shared, “I would say ang hirap nito, ang hirap ng role but I feel like it’s a good platform for me to showcase my skills as an actor.

“I think, yung Fidel, oo may heavy scenes, but this one is the heaviest kaya I’m super excited for this na nabigyan ako ng ganitong opportunity, such a nice role, such a remarkable [role].

What does he find challenging with his role?

Siguro yung Japanese na language, kailangan kasi magsalita ng Japanese language dito.

Nag-aaral ako. Mahirap talaga pero masaya naman at saka challenging.”

But despite the challenging preparations, David believes that “Pulang Araw” is different from all the past projects he did.

He declared, “Parang never akong na-excite sa isang teleserye. This ‘Pulang Araw,’ everytime, nanggigil ako na, ‘Shet, kailangan kong galingan.’”

Right now, David is busy promoting his new movie, “G! LU,” which hits the theaters today, April 24.

David is co-starring with Derrick Monasterio, Teejay Marquez, Enzo Pineda, Kiko Estrada, and Ruru Madrid.

David’s sleep apnea

Meanwhile, David is preparing for surgery to finally address his sleep apnea this April 30.

According to David, he has this condition since he was 16 years old.

May operation ako sa sleep apnea ko, sana gumaling kasi hirap na hirap na ako.

Sa akin, gagawin lang parang radio frequency, susunugin yung part ng nose ko sa loob para may mas malaking airway.”

Why did it take a while before he finally decided to have a surgery for it?

He said, “Kasi before, ang alam ko, yung operation dapat one month yung recovery.

“But when I got myself checked up a week before I left for Canada, sinabi na meron palang procedure na pwedeng 15 minutes lang yung procedure ‘tapos yung recovery, one day lang.

“So yun yung gagawin ko. Hopefully, makatulong, kung hindi, dead na tayo niyan,” he quipped.
