Barbie and David will return to the screen as Adelina and Hiroshi!
GMA-7 has unveiled its “biggest historical action-drama for 2024” titled “Pulang Araw,” which will be bannered by some of the Kapuso network’s most-prized stars.
Unveiled in “24 Oras” on Thursday, November 23, the period drama will be headlined by Sparkle’s prime stars Barbie Forteza, David Licauco, Sanya Lopez, and Alden Richards.
Also included in the cast ensemble are Epy Quizon, Angelu De Leon, Rochelle Pangilinan, Ashley Ortega, Mikoy Morales, and Aidan Veneracion.
Rhian Ramos, who was first announced as an antagonist in the upcoming spin-off of “Encantadia,” will also play an important role in the show.
In a report by Aubrey Carampel of “24 Oras,” it was revealed that the historical action-drama will focus on World War II and the Japanese occupation in the Philippines.
Barbie will play the role of Adelina Dela Cruz—half-brother of Eduardo Dela Cruz, which will be played by Alden.
David, on the other hand, will portray a Japanese soldier named Hiroshi Tanaka, while Sanya is set to take Teresita Borromeo as her character.
What can the audience expect from “Pulang Araw”
The storyline was briefly introduced, saying that “Pulang Araw” will revolve around the narratives of four childhood friends: Eduardo, Hiroshi, and half-sisters Teresita and Adelina.
The challenges were also tapped, as it introduces themes of “dreams,” “friendships,” and “loyalties” as the usual struggles within the story.
As for Barbie, “Pulang Araw” is a chance for them to reminisce about the history that molded the Philippines.
Still basked in the success of her hit series with David, “Maria Clara at Ibarra,” Barbie then says, “Coming from ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra’ na parang we really left a mark. The show itself, the theme behind it, left a mark, and really gave a big impact in terms of Philippine history.
“So now, mas nae-embrace natin ang pagbabalik tanaw sa ating historya.”
As for Alden, he is grateful towards GMA-7 for entrusting him with a role that speaks of his roots—being half American. He says that Eduardo’s life is an arc that he did not experience growing up.
Decent information about the preparation was disclosed, including David’s upcoming Nihongo lessons to imbibe his character more.
With his on-screen return with Barbie, he shares that he is “super grateful” now that he is “mas sanay na” with the on-screen partner.
Further details of the upcoming series are yet to be announced.
