Here’s What Julia Barretto Has To Say About Her Reconciliation With Bea Alonzo

Julia: “I don’t want other people would feel like it was some ingenuine moment”

Julia Barretto says that she feels positively about her reconciliation with Bea Alonzo—a thing she takes as a sign that the “world is finally healing.”

The once-estranged actresses were seen sharing a warm moment at the tribute party of the legendary star maker Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan on March 16, 2024.

The surprise encounter followed years after their controversial social media feud in 2019, involving Julia’s current boyfriend and Bea’s ex-lover, Gerald Anderson.

Now for the first time since their friendly reunion, the 27-year-old actress has finally aired her thoughts on the matter via a YouTube interview with Toni Gonzaga published on Friday, April 26, 2024.

Julia begins, “The world is healing. For me, yes. Siyempre, I’m gonna personally speak for myself because I never wanna speak for anybody else. It’s a moment that, of course, bina-value ko.”

As for Julia, she speaks less on the matter as she does not want negative connotations to taint the sincerity of their actions.

She says, “As much as possible, siyempre ang daming nag-a-ask sa akin, and I don’t want to go into details so much because I don’t want other people would feel like it was some ingenuine moment.”

She adds, “Siyempre, it’s a really real moment ‘di ba?”

With all things considered, Julia feels that their restored communication is essential to her healing—just as it is essential for Bea’s.

“Maybe to fully close it, para alam mo na, the people in the past, you were able to close that with them, hoping that it also [gives] them peace.”

Julia Barretto was hurting at 22

Julia was only 22 years old when her rumored involvement in Bea and Gerald’s romance broke across. Considering how impressionable one can get at such a young age, Julia believes that it was the most challenging year of her life so far.

Julia also admits having to go through it feeling lost—and she was never sure whether she managed to overcome it by faith for herself or for the people who were sympathizing for her.

She says, “I don’t know if I did that for myself or did it for the people around me. Like, the people who were really hurting for me.

Kasi, ‘di ba, kapag ikaw naman nasasaktan, parang kaya naman. Pero parang yung nasa paligid mo na yung, ‘Please, why are you allowing this?’”

In reflection, Julia says that  it was more of a move for her loved ones—her family, her closest friends—who were pained by the issue than Julia ever was. And with the strong motivation they carry, Julia was compelled to rise above it.

“So, maybe that was for them. You have two choices, like magmumukmok ba ako or magpapatuloy ako. Siguro yung phase na yun at 22, I was sure that, ‘Wait, this is not the end of my world.’ Hindi ako magmumukmok, we’re gonna keep going.”

While Julia recognizes that wounds mend over time, she still emphasizes that accountability must take precedence for both parties involved.

As she puts it, “You also have to take accountability kung ano yung naging role mo sa chaos na yon. Ako kasi, personally, I am sure na may naging role ako in somebody else’s pain and other people’s pain. In the same way that they also have contributed to my pain.

“But I think, you know, na okay ka na when you’ve acknowledged, ‘I have a role in this.’ Baka may shortcomings rin talaga naman ako. Baka I really did something that hurt somebody.

“It’s sad but I took accountability. Hindi naman pwedeng everybody just hurt me. I’m sure there’s some people that I hurt along the way.”

Prior to Julia’s sentiment, Gerald has initially aired his thoughts on the issue. Just the same, Gerald feels that his ex and his current girlfriend’s revived friendship is an indication that time does actually heal.
