The crowd chanted “bring back Twitter” when they saw Elon Musk on the event’s monitors
This happened during the Valorant Champions gaming event in Los Angeles in August 2023.
Elon’s recent move to replace the iconic Twitter Bluebird and rebrand the micro-blogging site as X has sparked significant criticism.
Accompanied by his son X AE A-XII Musk, the CEO of Tesla was present to witness the competitive Esports Valorant championship. But, as he briefly appeared on the video stream, the crowd of gamers erupted in boos, shocking event announcers.

The audience’s strong reaction was evident as the chant “Bring back Twitter” resounded, reflecting their desire for Elon to revert to the platform’s original name.
Recently, Twitter had unveiled a new logo replacing the iconic blue bird with a white X against a black background. Elon swiftly then replaced the website’s URL and interface to adapt to its new name, “X.”
Under Elon’s ownership, the business name of Twitter had already transformed into “X Corp,” aligning with his vision of shaping a comprehensive “super app” akin to China’s WeChat.
Linda Yaccarino, the newly appointed CEO of X, explained that the name and logo change signifies a broader rebranding effort, aiming to transform the platform into an all-encompassing “everything app.”
“X represents the future state of unlimited interactivity – centred around audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we are just beginning to imagine,” Linda said on her X account.
