Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez has broken up with her long-time girlfriend, international DJ Kate Jagdon. The couple dated for seven years.
Suspicions about the breakup first came about when fans noticed that both parties had deleted photos of each other on social media. Jagdon confirmed the split through Instagram earlier this week. “These past few weeks have been the most difficult time of my personal life. It was a conscious decision to keep quiet. After all, this is a personal matter and I chose my privacy above everything else,” she said.
“I don’t want to say anything more that fits anyone’s situation. This statement will be short before rumors and falsifications get out of hand. Bea and I have parted ways. I am simply taking this step to move forward and go on with my life. Nothing more,” she went on. She also wished her ex “the best of luck in her journeys” and asked for privacy from the public during the trying times.
Gomez won the crown for Miss Universe Philippines 2021 last September, making history as the first openly gay woman to top the competition. She’s long been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, sharing her experiences back when she won in Binibining Cebu.
“Just like what everyone hopes for in the LGBTQIA+, I aspire for acceptance and inclusivity — especially equal rights and protection for the younger generation who oftentimes suffer from bullying and different forms of violence. They are left to fend for themselves, particularly those that are oppressed by their own parents,” she told Cebu Daily News in June 2021.
Gomez is currently in Eliat, Israel to prepare for the 70th Miss Universe competition, which is set to happen on December 12, 2021.
