Even before he became the president of the United States, Donald Trump used to be very fond of social media. He used to share his thoughts on anything and everything on the popular social media platform, Twitter on a regular basis.
However, things escalated to a different level during and after his presidency. After all, he was no longer a ‘normal’ citizen who was speaking his mind. He was the 45th president of the United States, the most powerful man in the world.
While everyone has the right to his own opinion, a man in a position of power such as Trump has great influence over people. Well, earlier this year, he took things a bit too far. Twitter and other social media platforms such as Facebook banned Trump permanently last January. This suspension followed his incitement of the US Capital riots, wherein hundreds of his supporters stormed the US Capitol building, leaving five people dead.
After his ban on Twitter, his son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner, intervened when Trump’s aides attempted to get Trump on other social media platforms such as Gab and Parler. However, it looks like he won’t be off social media for good.
According to CNN, Trump is staging his return to social media by launching his own network. Jason Miller, a long-time adviser and spokesperson for Trump’s 2020 campaign, said that Trump will be “returning to social media in probably about two or three months.” He explained that Trump’s return will be with “his own platform” that will attract “tens of millions” of new users and “completely redefine the game.”
Yes, former President Donald Trump plans to launch his very own social media platform in order for him to share what he’s been doing to the world. Talk about extra, right? Will the platform be free or exclusive like the new Clubhouse app? We’ll have to wait and see. Details about this new platform have yet to be shared.
