Angelica Panganiban Discloses Fight Against Bone Disease

Angelica: “Bakit ako? Bakit sa akin nangyari ito?”

Angelica Panganiban reveals in a YouTube vlog that she has been diagnosed with avascular necrosis—a type of bone disease that inflicts severe pain in her hips.

The 37-year-old actress took to YouTube on Saturday, November 18, her personal battle with “bone death.”

According to the actress, she first experienced early signs when she was still pregnant with daughter Amila Sabine Homan.

She says, “Six months into pregnancy, meron na akong mga nararamdamang sakit sa may hips. Hindi ko actually ma-pinpoint noon kung sa hips, sa leg, sa likod, or sa puwitan. Yun yung mga struggles ko noon.”

Upon consulting doctors and other mothers, Angelica was advised that the pain is a typical pregnancy discomfort. However, it still persisted even after pregnancy.

Convinced that the pain would die down eventually, Angelica then carried on with her daily physical activities, such as yoga.

Then came her trip to Palawan in March 2023 with some celebrity friends, the discomfort in her hip area has only gotten worse, which made her unable to walk at the very least.

When she returned home, she was immediately advised to undergo therapy and take medication suitable for lactation. But while these treatments did Angelica good for over two months, it was not long until sporadic pain manifested.

As a pain-beaten Angelica struggled more, her fiancé Gregg Homan took her to a bone specialist, who recommended platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.

The process requires taking Angelica’s own blood to cultivate plasma, which will then be injected to the affected area.

Going under MRI test has revealed the gravity of Angelica’s condition. While she was advised to undergo joint replacement, her hesitation prompted her to seek a more conservative approach.

This time, nag-drill sila ng hole.”

“In-inject nila yung PRP directly doon sa dead bone. Di ko inakala masakit siya, tulo nang tulo yung luha ko.”

Angelica’s painful ordeal prompted her to pity herself. In fact, she deeply confronts her hard truth with questions, “Bakit ako? Bakit sa akin nangyari ito?

Ano ‘yung cause niya? Wala. Malas talaga at nangyari siya sa akin,” she continues.

However taxing, Angelica says that she remains positive now that she is currently undergoing treatment. More so, she looks for a safe recovery in hopes of returning to work in 2024.
