Here’s Why GMA-7 Singer Anthony Rosaldo Never Thought Of Switching Networks

Anthony Rosaldo stages his first solo concert!

“The Clash” season one graduate Anthony Rosaldo opens the year 2024 with his first solo concert.

Titled “Switch,” the show will be held at the Music Museum on January 31, 2024.

The concert will showcase what happened in the first five years of his career after finishing sixth place in “The Clash” in 2018.

Included in the milestones, aside from releasing his singles and performing in GMA-7 shows, is his entry into the theater scene with the 2023 restaging of “Ang Huling El Bimbo.”

Now that he is entering a new milestone in his career, Anthony is grateful to GMA-7 and his management, Sparkle GMA Artist Center, for their help and support.

He tells FreebieMNL, “Start pa lang ng pagbuo ng show, nandiyan na sila. Kahit yung brainstorming, they were there.

“Regarding to what I will wear and the budget na kailangan for it, they’re very helpful. And kahit sa pag-promote, hindi naman sila tumitigil sa pag-help.

“I even got a promotion ng concert sa commercial. So, thankful ako diyan because this show also, I’m also very involved because I’m also a producer. So, malaking help ang binibigay nila sa akin.”

With this, Anthony points out that the “switch” that is happening is only in the concert, affirming his loyalty to Sparkle and GMA-7.

He then shares how he appreciates Sparkle in terms of taking care of his career since he signed with them in 2018 after “The Clash.”

Anthony will also never forget how Sparkle—especially its current Vice President Joy Marcelo—supported him on his stage debut in “Ang Huling El Bimbo.

He recalls, “I can remember one instance na may love para sa akin ang Sparkle, lalo na si Miss Joy. Umiyak siya noong pinanood niya ako ng opening ng ‘Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical,’ and hindi umiiyak si Miss Joy in front of the camera. So, I felt that. It was sincere.

“It was the primary reason and kaya hindi mawawala yung support ko sa GMA kasi andiyan sila all the way, even our big bosses, kahit anong hiling ko, kahit anong ipapa-memo, walang hindi pinirmahan.

“And I am sure, they are after my welfare also as an artist, and gusto ko, lumaki ako, gusto ko maging kilala ako, gusto ko umangat yung career ko kasama ko sila and kung anuman yung gagawin ko in the future, sila yung gusto ko kasama at alam ko hindi nila ako pababayaan.

“So, I am grateful to Sparkle, to GMA Network for being my rock, being the wings sa aking paglipad.”

 Preparations for the concert

The past few months have been very busy for Anthony as he prepared for his concert.

He shares, “Physically, I exercise. Dapat lagi tayong fit.

Ang takot ko is to get sick before the concert, so, talagang nagva-vitamins ako, nag-eat ako ng healthy and I stay away from people who are sick.”

Aside from his physical preparations, he also made sure to be “super involved” in the repertoire he would showcase for the concert.

Lahat ng songs, I personally handpicked. Siyempre, coming from the theme na from mainstream to theater, pumili ako ng songs that are currently a hit ‘tapos may iba doon, 80%, galing sila sa Broadway musical and local OPM musicals.

“So, it’s going to be a treat sa manonood. So, to handpick the songs, talagang nag-download ako sa YouTube ‘tapos naghanap ako ng iba-ibang versions, ‘tapos ako mismo yung nag-splice and prinesent ko sa managers ko.”

As for his guests, he has numbers with Khalil Ramos, Rita Daniela, Gian Magdangal, and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo.

Among these, he is mostly looking forward to his duet with Menchu.

Anthony says, “It’s going to be heartwarming and very personal. I think iiyak ako sa number na yun because I will be performing with this person who was really a big help when I entered theater last year.

“That person is well-respected and tintingala talaga siya ng theater world and hindi siya naging madamot sa akin and I wouldn’t have done the role, 58 shows, and the rehearsals we did in ‘Ang Huling El Bimbo’ without the help of this person. So, you might see me crying on that stage.”
