Child Star Althea Ruedas Recounts Meeting Idol Kathryn Bernardo

Althea Ruedas also shares what she learned from on-screen fathers Baron Geisler and Jerald Napoles

Child actress Althea Ruedas, popular for her portrayal as Yumi in the hit Netflix movie “Doll House,” is the newest child star on the rise.

Althea recently signed up with VIVA Artists Agency and is now headlining the VIVA movie “Instant Daddy” with Jerald Napoles, which is showing in cinemas today, October 11.

But just like any other aspiring actress, Althea also has her own celebrity idols.

She says about this, “Ang pinaka-idol ko po talaga at saka nag-inspire sa akin is Miss Kathryn Bernardo.”

In fact, Althea had the chance to play the young Kathryn in “A Very Good Girl.” It was also the first time she met her idol in the flesh.

Speaking to select entertainment reporters including FreebieMNL on September 27, Althea shared how her first encounter with Kathryn happened.

Althea then reenacted how she greeted Kathryn, complete with the kilig she was feeling upon meeting her idol.

She told Kathryn, “Hi po, Ate Kath! Haaaa!

How would Althea describe Kathryn?

Sabi niya, ‘hi’ and napaka-friendly po talaga niya!”

When did she start idolizing Kathryn?

May pinanood po ako dati na I forgot the title pero I was five po noon kaya hindi ko pa po masyado matandaan.”

But Althea says that her most favorite project of Kathryn was the 2017 fantasy series “La Luna Sangre” with Daniel Padilla. In fact, she just rewatched the show on Netflix.

She says, “Ang paborito ko po talaga kasi I grew up with that is ‘La Luna Sangre.’ E, di ba meron po sa Netflix noon?

Pinanood po namin ni Papa, siguro po mga two weeks or one month kaming hindi pwedeng galawin kasi pinapanood po namin yun!”

Learnings from her on-screen fathers

Althea had good relationships with both of her on-screen fathers: Baron Geisler in “Doll House” and Jerald Napoles in “Instant Daddy.”

She also has learned unforgettable lessons and pieces of advice from them.

For Baron, who Althea calls Daddy B, she says, “Katulad po ng sinabi niya sa ‘Doll House,’ yung iconic line po doon: ‘At least you tried and did your best.’ Lagi niya rin po sinasabi yan sa lahat ng pagkikita po namin.”

As for Jerald, the child actress says, “Kay Papa Je naman po, always calm down and never pressure yourself.”

In “Instant Daddy,” Althea plays the role of Mira, a young girl who grew up with her father, Val (Jerald). While she longs for the presence of her mother, Julie (Danita Paner), she is happy to spend time and be with her father.

Things get complicated when Julie returns to disturb Mira and Val’s quiet life and plans to have Mira under her custody.

“Instant Daddy,” a Filipino adaptation of the Mexican movie “Instructions Not Included,” also stars Ryza Cenon, MC Muah, and Nikko Natividad. It is directed by Crisanto Lim under VIVA Films.
