Jennylyn admits that Dennis is her first love!
Celebrity couple Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado once faced a rough patch in their relationship, prompting them to separate temporarily over issues of doubt and jealousy.
The couple have looked back to the time when their love was tested in a YouTube interview with Karen Davila published on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
Dennis and Jennylyn’s romance started in 2010. Not over a year had passed since, they were then reported to have parted ways already over reports of arrogance and physical violence.
Almost two years after their controversial separation, they both decided to reconcile by getting back together. Eventually, they began to date again exclusively in January 2014 and got married in 2021.

Looking back, Jennylyn admits that there were a lot of misgivings at that time, mainly carried by their extreme affection for each other. More so, she emphasizes that her emotions used to be so raw as Dennis is her first love.
She says, “Siyempre, may mga times na magda-doubt ka kasi ang dami niyong pinagdadaanan. Pero hindi mawawala sa isang relasyon, talagang may ups and downs talaga.”
For Dennis, he views their relationship as strongly as Jennylyn does. For him, “Intense po yung feelings namin para sa isa’t isa. Ganoon kaaga.
“Pero siyempre, nangyari ‘yon, pareho pa siguro kaming hindi mature. So, maraming mga naging problema na hindi namin nagawan ng solusyon.
The actor has also emphasized that they are more mature now in dealing with their problems—thus they always come to a middle ground and agreement.

The distant strains of their relationship were attributed to jealousy—a thing that Jennylyn confirmed as the “main” reason for their setback.
Dennis has also pointed at the same issue, saying “Yun yung isa sa mga napapag-awayan namin noon. Pero ngayon, kayang kaya na i-handle.”
For Dennis and Jennylyn, constant and open communication has always been their stronghold whenever they see themselves going back to their old issues.
Dennis says, “’Pag binigay mo lang talaga yung tiwala mo sa kanya. And hindi magpo-focus sa mga masasamang bagay na nai-imagine mo lang na hindi mo naman nakokontrol.”
Jennylyn seconds, “So, naniniwala ako na talagang pag-usapan niyo, upuan niyo, bigyan niyo ng oras yung mga bagay na hindi pagkakasunduan para malinaw.”
Dennis and Jennylyn have a one-year-old daughter, Dylan Jayde. Jennylyn has a son named Jazz with previous boyfriend Patrick Garcia, while Dennis also has a son named Calix with ex-girlfriend Carlene Aguilar.
