This album release announcement has been a long time coming
Singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo announced that her second album, “Guts,” will be released on September 8. The sophomore album will follow her debut album “Sour.”
Olivia took to her social media accounts to share the news. The Fil-Am actor revealed that the lead single, “Vampire,” will drop on June 30. The album’s cover art features Olivia wearing a lacy black dress, red lipstick, and four rings on her right hand that spell out the album’s name while she bites her thumb. Die-hard Liv fans would notice her set against a purple floor right away too.
Fans had speculated about a comeback when covers of Olivia’s debut single, “drivers license,” displayed an expiry date of June 30, 2023.
Olivia expressed in a statement that “Guts” explores the challenges of growth and self-discovery as she enters her 20s. Another fun fact would be that made the album in collaboration with Dan Nigro, who also worked on “Sour.”
“I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20—it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change,” Olivia shared. “I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully, the album reflects that.”
In a separate statement, Olivia highlighted that a significant portion of “Guts” was created when she was 19 years old, a year filled with confusion, mistakes, and teenage angst, similar to her debut album “Sour.”
“Sour” achieved tremendous success. The album earned Olivia four platinum certifications and three Grammy Awards. These include Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance for “drivers license.” It also holds the record for the longest-running debut album of the 21st century on the Billboard 200.
