Herlene Budol In Tears After Being Criticized Over Viral Pageant Q&A

“Tulungan niyo ako, huwag niyo akong ibaba,” Herlene pleads

Beauty queen-comedian Herlene Budol shed some tears after her controversial question-and-answer video during the sashing ceremony of Miss Grand Philippines.

In a Facebook Live posted on Tuesday, June 20, an emotional Herlene was seen accommodating some questions and comments from her viewers.

Most of these questions center on the viral question-and-answer video that many find distasteful.

“Sorry, ha. sorry sa mga nagko-comment na dinogshow ko, pero hindi ko dino-dogshow. Seryoso po akong lumalaban dito, as in,” Herlene says.

Pinagsasabay-sabay ko lahat para kayanin ko. Q and A, pasarela, nagbabasa ako ng mga libro, nanonood ako ng mga movies, nagdadiet ako, nagse-search naman ako.

“Sorry, hindi ako perfect,” she adds.

When Herlene finally breaks into tears, she shares that she’s emotional not because she wants to draw pity from her viewers. Instead, her emotions came from the fact that she disappointed so many people.

Sabi ko, inspirasyon ako ‘tapos bobo pala yung inspirasyon niyo,“ she remarks in a seeming reflection of what she did.

Herlene then opens up about how her story inspired other girls to join the pageant, even mentioning that her co-candidates look up to her for breaking the English-speaking prototype practiced in many beauty pageants.

While many think of her as an inspiration, she shares that she regrets not living up to the expectations that her followers have set up for her.

Nasaan yung inspirasyon doon kung hindi ko pala kayang i-maintain kung ano yung naumpisahan ko, ‘di ba?

Kaya sobra akong nagsisisi ngayon. Kahapon pa ako nag-iisip kung bakit hindi ko nagawa yung kung ano yung ine-expect niyo sa akin,” she says.

In what seems to be a self-affirming statement, Herlene shares that she finds mistakes as a way to acquire more learning. “‘Di ba, sabi nga nila, ‘less talk, less mistake?’ Kasi sa akin, para sa akin, okay lang akong magkamali. More mistakes, more talk, more learnings,” she explains.

That was followed by a humble plea, “Tulungan niyo ako, huwag niyo akong ibaba.”

Kapag nagkamali ako, turuan niyo ako. Willing naman akong matuto. Willing akong makinig,” she adds.

Prior to the Facebook Live, Herlene has released an official statement in an attempt to explain her side.

Herlene writes (published as is): “Sa sobrang kaba ko po Hindi kopo naexplain yung kung Anong gusto kopong sabihin sorry I admit di po ako magaling Sa lahat ng bagay and sorry kung nawalan po kayo sakin ng kumpyansa Sa isang pag kakamali I’ll try my best to make you proud. Hindi ko po nilaro diko lang po talaga na gets yung tanong and I accept it Hindi po ako perpekto. Thank you for those people na naniniwala padin po saakin.”

Miss Grand Philippines is Herlene’s succeeding shot at winning a national crown. This follows her runner-up finish in Binibining Pilipinas 2022, which allowed her to participate in Miss Planet International 2022. However, pageant uncertainties prompted her to withdraw from the competition.

On top of a beauty pageant, Herlene also banners GMA-7’s afternoon series, “Magandang Dilag,” with Kapuso actors Benjamin Alves and Rob Gomez.

Herlene first rose to popularity as the “Hipon Girl” in the defunct Kapuso variety-game show “Wowowin,” where she was discovered by Willie Revillame and became a co-host thereafter.
