“Nokturno” Becomes Nadine Lustre, Bea Binene’s Reunion Project

Nadine Lustre on Bea Binene: “Hindi na siya total stranger”

Not everyone knows that Nadine Lustre and Bea Binene used to work together.

In fact, it was Nadine who reminded the public that she and Bea were already part of a show before.

She says, “Actually, hindi naman kami directly nagka-work ni Bea before, but we were in ‘Party Pilipinas’ before when I was still with Pop Girls.”

“Party Pilipinas” is GMA-7’s defunct Sunday noontime show where Bea was a regular performer when she was still part of Sparkle (formerly GMA Artist Center). Nadine also used to perform on the show with her defunct P-Pop group, Pop Girls.

Now, after more than 10 years, Nadine and Bea are reunited in upcoming horror film “Nokturno,” where they play sisters.

Nadine continues about Bea, “So, nagkikita na rin po kami before. So, ngayong nagkita ulit kami, parang hindi naman siya total stranger to me. Parang nagkakausap pa rin kami before and may pinuntahan din kaming event before. So, hindi na siya total stranger.”

As for Bea, she is happy to be reunited with Nadine again now that they belong to the same talent agency.

Bea shares, “We also promote a tax consulting group, so, ‘Hi, hello, kamusta?’ And even sa ‘Party Pilipinas’ before, we used to have dance prods together, rehearsals together, and that was how many years ago.

“So, I’m just really excited and that we belong to one group now, under VIVA Artists Agency.”

Nadine is also excited to work with the movie’s other cast members Wilbert Ross, John James Quilantang, and Eula Valdes.

She says, “Siyempre, ang saya ng meron kang mga ibang makakatrabaho ‘tapos para makita mo kung ano yung mga magiging dynamics niyo. I’m really looking forward to working with Bea and everyone.”

Nadine and Bea have already started shooting for “Nokturno” with Mikhail Red as director.

FreebieMNL and other press spoke to the cast of the movie during its story conference on August 30 at Botejyu Restaurant in Estancia Mall, Kapitolyo.

Doing another horror movie

Nadine’s last project was the horror film “Deleter,” which won awards and became a box-office hit at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2022.

Talking about “Nokturno,” Nadine says she did not think twice in accepting the offer.

She explains, “Actually, hindi na po ako nag-dalawang isip, e, because this is really the kind of project that I’ve been wanting to do.

“I’m a huge horror fan. I love watching horror films and si Direk Mik iyan. I really love working with the whole team, so, hindi na po nag-dalawang isip. I said yes right away.”

But admittedly, the film is a new challenge for Nadine especially having won awards for her two recent projects, “Greed” and “Deleter.”

Nadine recently won Best Actress at FAMAS 2023 for her performance in “Greed.”

She says, “I’m the kind of person po kasi na kung ano yung last na ginawa ko, gusto ko nahihigitan ko po yung performance ko doon. Ako lang naman po yun, but inspiring in a way na ‘Deleter’ is my second project after the pandemic.

“So, masaya lang po ako na pino-prove sa akin ng universe na I’m going the right way. So, mas yun po but I’m really excited for ‘Nokturno.’”

As for Bea, she is excited to try new things because it has been ages since she last did a horror movie, the 2015 film “Liwanag sa Dilim.”

Siyempre, kinakabahan po ako kasi it’s out of my comfort zone. Kasi kahit naman nakagawa na ako ng horror project before, it’s never the same, di ba?

Unang-una, even yung mga technicalities and production team na kasama ko, sila Direk, the story, iba rin naman siya at saka iba yung inspirasyon ng pagiging horror niya.

At saka yun, parang 17 pa lang ata ako noong gumawa ako. Ang tagal na rin, so, basically, ngayon lang ulit and very excited. Siyempre, yung pressure, nandun. Nakakapanibago, nakaka-challenge, but I’m really very looking forward.”

Direk Mikhail, on the other hand, admits there is pressure coming from the success of “Deleter.”

He shares, “We weren’t expecting ‘Deleter’ will even make it for MMFF. We just tried our luck, and when we made that film, it’s really from pure passion for the process and sa craft.

Yung important naman dito is whenever we initiate a project, and VIVA is very nice to us, they let us do what we want creatively as along as nag-a-align sa vision ng company. And kami, we always want to do projects that excite us and challenge us.

“I think pati yung cast are all artists here that want to expand our craft, ayaw ma-box in lang sa comfort zone and if di kami nag-e-enjoy, ano yung motivation to do the project?

“So, we really want to do something different, even though it’s horror, I feel like it’s a very accessible na genre sa Filipinos and very escapist cinema yung horror, nakaka-release tayo ng emotions.

Kami as filmmakers we’re really excited and kahit na may ganung pressure, mas important sa amin yung nag-e-enjoy ka lang.”
