The green-haired member of straw hat crew will set foot in the Philippines!
Filipino fans of the straw hat pirates are set to witness a rare moment as Mackenyu or popularly known as Roronoa Zoro of the international hit Netflix series “One Piece” gears for a fan meet in the Philippines!
Aptly dubbed “Closer To You: Fun Fan Meet,” the event will allow Filipino fans to get up close and personal with the actor who played the green-headed character at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City on November 20, 2023 at 7 p.m.
The event is backed by Jerry Blank, Chief Executive Officer of Dogu and a “former close aide” of the legendary Marvel Comics creator, the late Stan Lee. The sponsors, on the other hand, include MediaKing, Luxe Skin, and Luxe Slim.
Bringing Mackenyu to the Philippines
Mr. Jerry Blank, the former Business Development Manager of the late Stan Lee of Marvel, is instrumental in making Mackenyu’s fan meet in the Philppines.
Blank presented the idea of bringing Mackenyu to the Philippines to Mediaking Corp. President and CEO Michael “Mike” Flores, and another co-producer, Magkawas Beauty & Wellness founder and CEO Ms. Anna Magkawas.
Flores explains, “When it was brought to my attention, I immediately looked him up in Google, and
social media platforms. I saw he has a great potential in his recent stats.
“Weeks before, I happened to see in Netflix that One Piece is one of the top favorites of Filipino
viewers. When I finished One Piece, and I saw the potential of Mackenyu. I did research and have my staff reach out to Mackenyu Fan Groups.
“There was one single message from them: FANS WANT TO SEE MACKENYU CLOSER AND MORE INTIMATE. I talked with Jerry and he helped me get Mackenyu. Thus, this ‘Closer to
you Mackenyu Fun Fan Meet’ is born.”
Flores also teases fans that a lot is in store for them for the fan meet.
He says, “We arranged all premium giveaways to those who will come and see Mackenyu, like
personally signed photos, tote bags, posters, and even fans may have [a] chance to win in games, and have a chance to ask Mackenyu questions and have a memorable photo with him.
“Mackenyu himself might surprise his fans, who knows?”
For her part, Magkawas relates, “When Mike and Isha of Mediaking Corp. presented this Mackenyu project, me and my dear bhie, Mel, became interested. Mel is a big fan of ‘One Piece”s Zoro.
“Mediaking vividly explained the details of the project, and we believe the event is doable. This is our answer to what Mackenyu fans’ want. My vibration tells me that bringing Mackenyu, answers the demand of the humongous and loyal fans, to see him CLOSER and experience a more intimate encounter with him.
“Again, seeing Mackenyu is like experiencing a healthy sensation like the feeling of loyal Luxe Slim and Luxe Skin users. Who knows, Mackenyu will agree to become our official endorser?”
Mackenyu’s beginnings
26-year-old Mackenyu first got noticed after landing the role of Wataya Arata in the “Chihayafuru” trilogy (2016), which gave him the Newcomer of the Year Award at the 40th Annual Japan Academy.
Apart from his acting prowess, Mackenyu has more up his sleeves for he is a budding musician.
Mackenyu has been playing piano since he was 10 years old. He later participated in the brass band of his high school in Beverly Hills, playing saxophone and flute.
He showcased his impressive singing voice after making a cover of the hit pop song “Closer” by The Chainsmokers a couple of years ago.
And with his upcoming first-ever fan meet in the Philippines this November 20, 2023, his fans will not just see Mackenyu in the flesh but also witness his talent.
Fans will also be able to bond with him up close and personal and get to learn more about him.
