Piolo Pascual Admits Being Drunk While Accepting FAMAS Best Actor Award

Piolo: “Marami po akong pasasalamatan, pero marami na rin po ako nainom tonight

Piolo Pascual revealed during his acceptance speech as best actor in the 72nd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards night that he is intoxicated by alcohol.

The 47-year-old actor accepted the top acting award for his significant role in Roderick Cabrido’s “Mallari.” He was merited alongside Alfred Vargas who was lauded for his role in “Pieta.”

During his speech, Piolo first offered his thanks to the award-giving body  for the recognition. He then raised the award to God, which he says has orchestrated his win.

Maraming-maraming salamat po sa FAMAS. Maraming-maraming salamat po. Unang-una kong pasasalamatan ang Panginoong Diyos po sa karangalang ito because kung wala po ang Panginoong Diyos, wala po ako dito,” he says.

Piolo then acknowledges Vilma Santos and Christopher De Leon—presenters of the category—who he consider as his parents he fondly calls “Mommy Vi and Dad Bo” in reference to the film “Dekada ‘70.”

As the list goes on, Piolo then says, “Marami po akong pasasalamatan, pero marami na rin po ako nainom tonight. So, gusto ko lang pong magpasalamat sa Mentorque Productions, kay Bryan Diamante,” who currently helms the agency as managing director.

Piolo also offers his thanks to his “Mallari” co-stars then saying, “Marami po akong gusto pasalamatan pero, Mommy,” while gazing in the way of Vilma and Christopher.

Recognizing that Piolo might have been getting pumped up by alcohol, Vilma then says, “Lasing ka na anak, lasing ka na anak. Go ahead, anak, go.”

In response, Piolo says, “Puwede ba ako mag-shades, Mommy,” to which Vilma agrees—prompting Piolo to wear the shades he brought with him onstage.

The actor then goes on to his gratitude speech, as he thanked Direk Derick and the entire creative ensemble of “Mallari.”
