Sparkle Actor Radson Flores Excited To Play Kontrabida For The First Time

Radson will play a kontrabida in GMA Afternoon Prime’s “Prinsesa Ng City Jail”

Sparkle actor and “StarStruck” season 7 finalist Radson Flores tries a new challenge in his career, this time as a kontrabida.

He will portray his first villain role in the upcoming GMA Afternoon Prime series “Prinsesa ng City Jail,” headlined by Sofia Pablo, Allen Ansay, and Will Ashley.

Radson shared his excitement to FreebieMNL in a one-on-one interview at the Signed for Stardom event last May, where the Kapuso actor renewed his contract with Sparkle.

Radson says about his character, “I’m going to play Justin Lozano and this is my first time to play as an antagonist kasi si Mark Gordon, he wasn’t really an antagonist, he’s just an asshole. He’s more of an anti-hero but he’s not really bad.”

Mark Gordon is Radson’s character in “Voltes V: Legacy,” GMA-7’s live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime “Voltes V.”

Radson continues, “Pero dito sa ‘Prinsesa ng City Jail,’ this is my first time to play as an antagonist and it’s very exciting kasi I could get to experiment in my craft, I get to play around.

“There are a lot of veteran actors and like, very good acting coaches around me and directors that I could grow with. So, hopefully I can quench the thirst of the viewers na quenching for that kontrabida or something new na not your typical kontrabida.”

Radson shares that he has already plans on how to attack his character as a villain.

“I already have the plan on my mind on how to, like, how I want to build the character and trying to know what the character wants and what he needs in this series. So, I have a game plan na, pero I can’t reveal it yet.”

Now, Radson is just looking forward to work with her other co-stars, particularly Beauty Gonzalez and Denise Laurel.

He says of them, “I feel like I could learn so much more from them kasi parang they have this persona of they could be mataray.”

Radson as a Sparkle talent

Radson started his Kapuso journey in 2019 when he joined “StarStruck” season 7. While he got eliminated in the middle part of the competition, Radson still got good breaks, including “Voltes V: Legacy,” which currently airs a re-run on GMA Afternoon Prime.

Now, Radson is about to enter his fifth year as a Kapuso, signing a new contract with Sparkle.

He says of this, “Before, I used to say na it’s too short pero right now, it feels like a long journey. So, I’m very grateful and thankful that I’m still here, I’m still working and I still have a lot of room to improve, to show people my talent, what my heart is full of.”

He also appreciates how Sparkle takes care of him and makes sure that he also gets to explore stuff he wants to do in his career.

Radson explains, “The Sparkle management kasi, they’re very hands-on with their talents, they ask what the talents want and they input what they think the talent needs.

“So, it’s a hand-in-hand agreement with the management and the talents, so, I think it’s a very healthy way to build a relationship with their artists.”

Those who have witnessed Radson’s journey since “StarStruck” would have an idea that he really planned on becoming a lawyer before entertaining showbiz.

Radson admits that being a lawyer is still something he wants to pursue but now, he wants to focus on his budding showbiz career.

The Kapuso actor narrates, “Looking back, when I said na I really wanted to be a lawyer, I really wanted to be a lawyer, pero I was kind of half-hearted kasi I always wanted to be an actor as well, like, someone who’s, like, performing in the Fine Arts category.

“So, I’m still torn apart until now but right now, this is what I want, this is what I’m enjoying and I feel like I want to do more, I want to do so much more in this industry. I don’t think there’s a room right now for me to enter lawyering.

“So, that can actually wait kasi there are some who enter law school, 40 years old and they still become a lawyer. Dito kasi sa industry, you’re like a ticking time bomb, so realistically, meron lang tayong peak. Well, it depends on you, your longevity din, pero I’d say that this is something na you don’t get that of an opportunity of a lifetime. And I love it.”
