Ryan Agoncillo Reveals Wife Judy Ann Santos’ Role In His ‘Eat Bulaga!’ Career

Ryan Agoncillo feels blessed to be backed by people that matter to him the most

Despite it happening months ago, Ryan Agoncillo, one of the embattled “Eat Bulaga!” mainstay hosts, still can’t help but turn emotional about how he revealed his eviction from the long-running show to his wife Judy Ann Santos.

During the June 20, 2023 press conference of the show’s main hosts along with the “legit Dabarkads,” Ryan shared that he first broke the sad news to his wife knowing that she will be the first person to understand and console him.

“It has been 14 years, nasa ‘Eat Bulaga!’ pa rin ako. Kaya noong sinabi na tagpas kaming lahat, ang sabi ko na lang sa asawa ko pag-uwi ko, ‘I think I just got fired,’” he said.

Recall that, according to Joey, Ryan was one of the show’s hosts that TAPE Inc. management wanted to remove, along with Paolo Ballesteros, Ryzza Mae Dizon, and Maine Mendoza.

This was the management’s decision on top of cutting salaries, kicking out production staff, as well as removing other portions of the show. This supposedly prompted the “legit Dabarkads” to move to TV5.

Ryan’s resignation

The date May 31, 2023 marked a memorable time for Ryan, as well as the “legit Dabarkads” when TVJ bid their farewell to the show.

This was immediately followed by the circulation of a handwritten resignation letter from some of the show’s mainstays including Maine, Ryan, Paolo, Ryzza, Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo, and Allan K.

Ryan recalled how that day unfolded for him after just having gotten back from a vacation.

“By the time when I got to work, actually nagulat ako, nag-aalmusal kami ni Allan K. Hindi na kami nakakain kasi pagdating ko po doon sa programa, I didn’t know what was going on kasi galing kaming bakasyon. And it took about five minutes [for me] to figure out what’s really going on,” Ryan shared.

He added, “But we went on air. A few moments later, nagkatinginan na lang kami. Sabi namin, ‘Ito na ito. Ito na yung pinaghahandaan natin ng ilang buwan.‘”

Amid the chaos brought by the farewell announcement, Ryan’s first thought was to tell his wife about how it felt to be backed by TVJ.

Ryan underscored that his decision to resign from TAPE was his sole decision which was also supported by Judy Ann.

“My wife didn’t ask. My parents didn’t ask. When I made that decision, ang luwag, e. Tama. And [they said], ‘You will be okay,’ and that’s what I felt,” Ryan recalled.

Amidst all that has happened, Ryan is positive that good things will soon unfold especially with his wife and the “legit Dabarkads” by his side.

“We didn’t know gaano kalayo paningin namin. Pero as long as yung katabi ko ay ang TVJ at Dabarkads, there was just you knew that it was the right moves,” he ended.

TVJ’s new noontime show, along with the “legit Dabarkads,” will premiere on July 1 on TV5’s noontime block.
