“It’s Showtime” host Vice Ganda takes interest in guesting in one of GMA-7’s programs as the show moves to the Kapuso network’s sister channels, GTV.

In line with the official contract signing of “It’s Showtime” with GTV, the comedian has then expressed his enthusiasm to appear in a particular Kapuso program.

With that, Vice took the effort of consulting ABS-CBN’s COO for Broadcast Cory Vidanes to relay his interest.

Vice asks, “Meron lang akong request. Since mag-gi-guest tayo sa mga GMA shows, pwede ko bang i-request na mag-guest ako sa programang ito?”

The interest came mutually, as according to Vice, Miss Cory has agreed to forward the prospect to the executives.

Sana matuloy, at feeling ko ang daming nag-aabang noon. Feeling ko, ang daming excited. Ang dami ring mga umiikot ang puwet at curious kung pwede kayang mag-guest doon?” Vice adds as he invites everyone to keep tabs on the upcoming developments.

While Vice Ganda has chosen not to disclose the name of the program, some netizens have speculated that he’s leaning towards Jessica Soho’s banner program, “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.”

Jessica Soho and Vice Ganda’s history

In retrospect, Vice Ganda might have just hinted on guesting in “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” as many hoped for a possible reconciliation between the two.

In 2013, Vice Ganda caught Jessica’s distaste, on top of the public’s ire, after the comedian subjected the veteran journalist in one of his punchlines during his comedy concert.

The rape joke wrapped in body-shaming drew heavy criticism, as Vice remarks, “Ang hirap nga lang kung si Jessica Soho, magbo-bold. Kailangan gang rape lagi. Sasabihin ng rapist, ‘Ipasa ang lechon.’ Sasabihin naman ni Jessica, ‘E, nasaan yung apple?’

After a massive clapback from the public, Vice Ganda officially aired his apology in May 2013 during the noontime program “It’s Showtime.” More so, the comedian also made an effort to phone Jessica, but with no luck, remained unsettled.

Jessica then acknowledged Vice’s apology as she offered words to ponder about rape jokes and the existing chokehold it has on everyone.

Through a text message sent to Rappler, the journalist writes: “As I’ve said, this not about me, but about the issue of rape not being an appropriate subject matter for comedy. Rape transcends age, economic class, gender, and even one’s weight.”

Vice Ganda confirms no resentment to TV5

Vice Ganda’s latest YouTube vlog is an attempt to recall the timeline leading up to the decision of “It’s Showtime” to transfer from TV5 to GTV.

Nagsimula yan, nabasa ko sa Twitter. Umugong na siya, e, bago pa kami kausapin,” he begins.

“’Tapos, I was going for the States for a concert tour that that time. But before I left, tinawagan ko si Tita Cory ‘tapos tinanong ko siya na, ‘Tita Cory, may mga ganitong chika, totoo ba to?” He adds.

Miss Cory then assured him of his weariness as there was still no confirmation of the eventual replacement.

Vice then eased down from his worries, as he headed for a concert in Araneta Coliseum on June 2. However, during the day of the show, he was informed that there was an urgent meeting.

With Vice caught in his concert, it was decided that the meeting will be shelved for June 3, which was also canceled for an undisclosed reason.

On June 4, Vice received news from the program head writer about the cancellation of the blocktime deal of “It’s Showtime”  with TV5. Taking Miss Cory’s assurance, he then offered consolation to the weary head writer, as he emphasized that the rumor has no official groundings yet.

On June 5, the meeting finally pushed through, officially confirming the dreaded rumor. He recalls having reservations over the prospect of a later time slot as according to him, “’Showtime’ is a noontime brand. It will destroy the brand.”

Kung dati, nausog tayo, naging 12:30, naging 12:45, okay pa yun, kasi pasok pa siya sa noontime. Pero kung 4:30, hindi na siya noontime,” he adds.

He recalled lamenting on being a “casualty” of the more controversial issue between “Eat Bulaga!” and producer TAPE Inc., which ultimately prompted the Kapuso hosts to leave the show and the network.

As the original “Eat Bulaga!” hosts found refuge in their new home, TV5, “It’s Showtime” was then bumped off the noontime slot for a “priority” project with the iconic trio Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon.

As a result, “It’s Showtime” was offered a later timeslot with a delayed telecast. However, the program made the decision to “respectfully decline” and transfer to GTV where they will air starting July 2023.
