The prestigious Travel + Leisure magazine has once again included Palawan in its “Top Islands in the World” list.
The “Philippines’ Last Frontier” made it to two categories in the New York-based magazine’s World’s Best Awards 2021: the “Top 5 Islands in Asia” and “Top 25 Islands in the World.”
Palawan ranked 5th in the “Top 5 Islands in Asia” list, which was led by the Andaman Islands (India). The number one island in the list received a score of 91.24, followed by Koh Samui (Thailand) with 90.34, Bali (Indonesia) with 90.32, the Maldives with 89.55, and Palawan with 88.63.
“The Philippines‘ Palawan not only made this regional list again at No. 5 (though down from No. 1 last year) but also earned a spot in the World’s Best Islands list,” Travel + Leisure said.
“When they arrive, guests find mountains as well as white sand beaches washed by the Sula and South China seas. Resorts range from eco-chic stays to the spectacular Amanpulo resort, accessible only by private plane. Its 58 casitas and villas are nestled in the lush hillside and along the beach; each villa has its own chef and butler.”
Palawan also made it to the 19th spot in the “Top 25 Islands in the World,” which was led by two Greek islands. Mílos (Greece) received a score of 95.50, followed by Folegandros (Greece) with 95.47, St. Vincent and the Grenadines with 91.69, Madeira (Portugal) with 91.56, and the Andaman Islands (India) with 91.24.
The islands included in the lists were chosen and scored by Travel + Leisure readers based on “activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness, and overall value.”
“Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more,” the magazine said.
Last year, Palawan led both the “Top 10 Islands in Asia” and “Top 25 Islands in the World” lists with a score of 94.83. It also previously held the number one spot in Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best Islands” list in 2013.
