The call for mass testing has been there since the start of the pandemic. But due to the costly nature, many opt out of getting tested regularly. Watsons recognizes this problem and wants to help reduce the transmission of COVID-19 by making the kits more accessible for everyone.
How much is Watsons’ antigen test kit?
Starting on October 25, you can now purchase an FDA-certified COVID-19 antigen test kit at Watsons nationwide. The price for these test kits ranges from P399 to P500. Compared to the RT-PCR testing offered at private and public laboratories, the difference is significant. According to the Department of Health (DOH), each test ranges from P3,800 to P5,000 at these facilities.
How to avail of the antigen test kit?
The antigen test kits from Watsons must be administered by medical personnel such as doctors, nurses, and medical technologists to comply with standard health and safety practices. They’ll also require a medical prescription.
These tests can deliver at least 95% sensitivity and 99.2% specificity, which is more than what the Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) mandates. The minimum specifications required are 80% sensitivity and 97% specificity.
Accessible and Affordable antigen test kit
Making antigen testing kits more affordable and accessible for Filipinos can potentially limit the transmission of COVID. Through the collection of saliva, they’ll be able to detect the presence of the virus in 30 minutes or less.
“As more people head out to work, school and gatherings, Watsons knows that antigen test kits are important in helping reduce transmission,” Watsons Philippines Customer Director Maita A. Santiago said. “Watsons is taking a proactive role as the Philippines continues to fight this pandemic. Tools such as antigen testing kits help provide important information and serve as a guide to the public will know what steps to take,” she added.
