Alden says AlDub’s break-up wasn’t necessarily negative
Alden Richards opened up about his past feelings for his former on-screen partner, Maine Mendoza, years after the peak of their love team, AlDub.
During his interview on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” on October 9, Alden acknowledged that AlDub was a significant part of his life.
AlDub is a combination of Alden and “Yaya Dub,” the character Maine portrayed in “Eat Bulaga’s” “Kalyeserye” segment.
At the time, Maine had become a sensation for her viral Dubsmash videos. She mimicked famous dialogues and personalities like Kris Aquino. Her catchy performances earned her the nickname “Yaya Dub.”
The AlDub love team split in mid-2018, and during his interview with Boy Abunda, Alden was candid about his feelings for Maine.

“Did you fall for Maine Mendoza?” Boy asked Alden.
Alden first smiled before answering, “Yes, Tito Boy. Yes po. Hypocrite po kung hindi, and yes po, ayoko pong sabihing alam niya, pero I did confess.”
He also confirmed that he considers “AlDub” both his “biggest romance” and “biggest breakup.”
He adds, “Romance, yes, Tito Boy. Ang daming opportunities na dumating po sa buhay ko because of it. I’m very grateful to Maine. I’m very grateful to ‘Eat Bulaga,’ by all means. Sincerely.
“Kasi parang doon ko po naramdaman na talagang when you work hard for something, si Lord, ‘pag may hinihingi ka, hindi niya ‘yan ibibigay sa panahong gusto mong makuha. He always has this magic of giving it at the right timing.
“But break up, Tito Boy, yes,” he emphasized.
AlDub breakup
However, Alden said that AlDub’s breakup wasn’t exactly negative.
He explained, “It doesn’t necessarily mean that when you’re going through a breakup, laging masama, laging masakit, laging malungkot.
“It was a breakup because both of us, Maine and I, we needed growth. We needed to venture into our individual life,” he added.
After AlDub, Maine and Alden went on to do separate projects.
At present, Maine continues to appear as a host on TV5’s “E.A.T.” with Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon. She has also married her longtime boyfriend, Arjo Atayde.
Meanwhile, Alden is busy promoting his movie with Julia Montes, titled “Five Breakups and a Romance.” When it comes to the matters of the heart, Alden is single.
