Singer Dia Mate Is Cavite’s Representative To Miss Universe Philippines 2024

Dia associates herself with music and it plays role in her advocacy

OPM singer Dia Mate is set to compete in the 2024 edition of Miss Universe Philippines as the official delegate of the province of Cavite.

The 22-year-old Caviteña beauty was announced as the official Cavite representative during a reveal conference on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Pardon My French in Makati City.

For Dia, her qualifications as a candidate stands sufficiently, given that her “great grandmother is from Naic and her father is from Imus. With that, their family history has been embedded in the soil for generations already.

More than her roots, Dia also takes pride in the historical events and figures that have shaped Philippine sovereignty.

She says, “I am proud of my province because it is the historical capital of the Philippines. And that is where Emilio Aguinaldo was born; that’s where Julian Felipe was born and he made our national anthem.

So, I am so proud and blessed and honored that I am able to represent [my] province with so much culture and history that provided our country’s independence.”

Dia Mate shares her Miss Universe Philippines game plan

Fans and pageant outlets alike deem the upcoming edition of Miss Universe Philippines a highly anticipated night.

This claim is substantiated more evidently with the return of veteran beauty queens, such as Miss Intercontinental 2015 Christi McGarry, Miss International 2018 1st runner-up Ahtisa Manalo, Miss Universe 2021 Charity Victoria Velasquez Vincent, and Binibining Pilipinas 2022 2nd runner-up Stacey Gabriel.

While the roster may seem daunting for a newcomer like Dia, she still knows how to play her cards well. With a combination of physical and emotional training, she knows that she will be ready in time for the finals.

She says, “I feel that really my game plan for this pageant is to focus on myself and really keep my head in the game, make sure I don’t compare myself to other people.

“My training with Aces and Queens, make sure I practice and catch up with my pasarela any my [question-and-answer] to make sure I’m ready when the competition is in the final stage.”

Dia is also determined for her first-ever national pageant, saying, “I am going to put it all in and work so hard to be able to make it to the top and hopefully with the Miss Universe crown.”

What are Dia Mate’s advocacies?

The true test of a queen’s mettle is not only on how she carries herself, but also in the way she touches other people’s lives; such a measure is validated more by pageant organizations who value advocacy now than anything else.

But what can Dia bring to the table?

According to her, she associates herself more in music and this has been instrumental with the causes she identifies with.

For one, she says,”I have been going to Cribs Foundation Inc. and currently, I am a regular volunteer there teaching them music and as well when I was in high school, I volunteered at Chosen Children’s Village in Cavite.

“It is a home for orphaned children and special needs kids so I feel like as a musician, there’s so much passion in what I do and so much emotion. And hopefully, with the Miss Universe platform, I [will not only] amplify my love for music but also make a difference in these kids’ lives as well.”

Miss Universe Philippines is yet to announce the date of the coronation night. Michelle Dee, the reigning queen, will pass on the crown to the eventual winner.
