Jasmine Curtis Smith Reflects On Her Biggest Challenge While Taping “Asawa Ng Asawa Ko”

Jasmine: “I think ang kalaban ko most of the time is my own mind”

“Asawa Ng Asawa Ko” star Jasmine Curtis Smith has shared that playing as a wife had been her toughest challenge in doing the GMA-7 series with Rayver Cruz and Liezel Lopez.

At a media conference of “Asawa Ng Asawa Ko” on January 9, 2024, the 29-year-old actress opened up about taking the role of a wife and a mother and how she ultimately got through intense scenes with the help of Rayver and other co-stars.

Jasmine says, “There’s a lot of challenges sa akin kasi hindi ko alam paano maging asawa. Pero yun yung biggest challenge ko—learning how to become and to portray a wife and also a mother. And paano namin yun na-achieve, paano namin napuntahan yun.”

Playing as one of Rayver’s character’s wives, Jasmine then shares how the role requires a lot more of internalization in terms of her real-life experiences.

“For me, ang dami kong kailangan i-bend na experiences in my own life. Maybe create different ones depending sa mga nangyari na. And imagine how, not just myself, but for the character, how they would go through it and accept yung mga nangyayari.”

Due to her lack of experience being a wife, Jasmine says that sometimes, she cannot fully grasp the concept and how to translate it into acting.

“I think ang kalaban ko most of the time is my own mind. And hindi ko laging nako-concretize, is that even a word? Hindi siya sobrang solid minsan or buo yung naiisip kong idea. So hindi ako confident minsan,” she adds.

Laurice Guillen, director of the series, once said in an interview with Boy Abunda that Jasmine’s character—Cristy—is complicated since it was portrayed to have been through “really extraordinary experiences, suffering.”

How did Jasmine Curtis overcome it?

Even though Jasmine is vocal about the challenge, she also recognizes the support that director Laurice and co-stars extended for her.

During moments of acting struggle, Jasmine reveals, “That’s when I’m so grateful na makakuha ng support not just from my leading man but especially from direk Laurice, direk Gina [Alajar], Joem [Bascon], everyone in the cast.

“Kasi, kadalasan pag hindi ako confident and nakikita kong ina-accept nila yung ibinibigay ko, dun ko mas naihuhugot pa or mas naibibigay pa ng sana mas tama or sana mas buo yung emosyon, eksena, or kung ano man yung nangyayari.”

Jasmine has also emphasized how Rayver had helped her get through some of the most intense scenes while taping.

As for her, “It’s been really fun na makasama si Rayver as a castmate, as a leading man. Lalo na kapag may mabibigat na eksena and pagkatapos ng mga eksenang yun, napakadaling mag-bounce back or at least ma-relieve yung sarili mo na hindi madala yung emosyon.”

Such is true as, according to Jasmine, Rayver is known as a personable artist—”light, bubbly, and happy going.”

“Asawa Ng Asawa Ko” started airing on January 15, 2024 and can be watched on the primetime block of GMA-7, GMA Prime.
