David and Jak’s matching outfits gain netizens’ interest and attention
It’s not every day Sparkle talents get to convene, but whenever GMA-7’s talent management arm calls for a gathering, they make sure to pull out the most amazing and memorable outfits.
This claim is particularly true with the recently concluded Sparkle Spell 2023, wherein GMA-7 talents flocked to XYLO at the Palace on Sunday, October 22 for a night of tricks and spooks.
Donning diverse costumes and portraying a wide array of fictional characters, these talents surely made waves across the internet. And here, we round up the best moments from the event.
David Licauco and Jak Roberto’s matching Zoro outfits
Kapuso heartthrobs David and Jak had caused quite a stir across the net after they both appeared as Roronoa Zoro—a focal character in Japanese hit manga “One Piece.”
Their similarities were uncanny—from the green hair, to leather boots, and even a pair of swords just make them look straight out of the Straw Hat Pirates.
But be it intentional or not, the netizens were momentarily divided on who wore it better, especially that they are currently being pitted against each other by fans for actress Barbie Forteza.
David is Barbie’s on-screen partner in GMA-7’s hit “Maria Clara at Ibarra” and upcoming primetime remake of the classic “Maging Sino Ka Man.” Meanwhile, Jak is Barbie’s real-life partner.
Barbie Forteza as mother of the dragons
Barbie chose to walk without any escort, as she goes into a full-blast portrayal of the fierce and feisty Daenerys Targaryen from the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones.”
The 26-year-old actress dons a silk blue dress, skin boots, and Daenerys’ famous trademark—blonde curls.
Kyline Alcantara goes deadly as the Night King
Checking all the elements of spooky is Kyline Alcantara who went for a pure horror portrayal of Night King from “Game of Thrones.”
Even by staring for a minute or two, no one would recognize that Kyline is the face behind the crusty white mask, ashen hair, and a metal-like ensemble.
Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz go mystery solving
Reel and real-life couple Julie Anne and Rayver had graced the event as Daphne and Fred— the fictional tandem from the kids’ show “Scooby Doo.”
As part of their gimmick, the couple had also released a video about their campy portrayal. With their chemistry made more intense by their get-up, they managed to bag the Most Fabulous Couple of the Night.
Sparkle Teen’s Gaea Mischa relives MJ Lastimosa’s Miss Universe moment
Gaea Mischa is one fun persona during the event, as she took everyone back to the past with a reminiscent, popular costume worn by beauty queen Mary Jean Lastimosa during her Miss Universe stint in 2014.
The costume, originally made by a Colombian designer Alfredo Barraza, has gained notoriety in the pageant world due to its absurd similarity to a cake. Some even blamed the terno for MJ’s non-inclusion in the Top 5.
But regardless of the past it holds, Gaea Mischa’s act of reliving has definitely sat well with MJ’s humor. In fact, she reacted to Gaea’s look and writes, “Sino nanaman bang may birthday jan [?]”
Sassa Gurl arrives as living funeral bouquet
Bringing her comedic card once more is content creator Sassa Gurl who arrived as a living funeral bouquet.
Similar to the ones seen in wakes, Sassa was embellished with white flowers, ornamental leaves, and a huge ribbon that reads, “Condolences, from Congressman.”
Derrick Monasterio on a horse
Just when people thought they have seen all sorts of fantasy gimmicks, Derrick then arrived dashingly shirtless on a horse!
Portraying the legendary Greek warrior Achilles, Derrick was seen with a head armor, a leather-strapped cape, a rounded shield, and a pair of boots that speak highly of Greek mythology.
This year’s Sparkle Spell ball is just one of GMA-7’s lineup of events. It follows the GMA-7 Ball 2023 held in July 2023, wherein Kapuso stars, executives, and other industry personalities glammed up for a night of thanksgiving.
