In a decision that shocked showbiz fans all over, the Kapatid and Kapamilya networks, once worlds apart, are now teaming together. Their first agenda? The premiere of ABS-CBN’s longest-running Sunday noontime show, ASAP Natin ‘To on TV5.
The surprising news comes after TV5 announced the cancellation of musical-variety show Sunday Noontime Live or SNL and gag show Sunday Kada, which both premiered only last October and aired every Sunday noon. The shows, produced by Brightlight Productions and directed by Johnny Manahan, who used to work under ABS-CBN as the prominent Mr. M, ended abruptly after just one season reportedly due to poor ratings. Their final episodes aired last January 17.
Both shows included talents who jumped from the Kapamilya network, including Piolo Pascual, Maja Salvador, Donny Pangilinan, Jason Gainza, Sunshine Garcia, Maxine Medina, and Ritz Azul, among others.
ASAP Natin ‘To is set to take over SNL’s timeslot starting January 24. Nonetheless, viewers can still catch the Sunday variety show online via Kapamilya Online Live on YouTube and iWantTFC, on cable and satellite TV via the Kapamilya Channel, or on free TV via the Zoe Broadcasting Network’s A2Z Channel.
“This collaboration between CIGNAL, TV5, Brightlight Productions, and ABS-CBN marks the start of greater cooperation among our various industry players and begins a new era of partnership,” TV5 and Cignal CEO and President Robert Galang said.
Also joining TV5’s Sunday schedule is ABS-CBN’s FPJ: Da King, a movie block showcasing all the best action movies of the late Fernando Poe Jr., which will air from 2 to 4PM.
Whether the Sunday Noontime Live gang will jump back to ABS-CBN’s banner Sunday show, remains to be seen, but true Kapamilya fans are free to hope so.
