Robi’s family chose to reveal the sad news to him after the wedding
What started off as a joyous moment for Robi Domingo was then replaced by mourning after his grandmother passed away on the same day of his wedding with Maiqui Pineda.
Robi sees January 6, 2024 as a “bittersweet” memory as his wedding day coincides with his grandmother’s passing.
The celebrity host revealed the sad news through an Instagram post, just days after marrying Maiqui in an intimate wedding ceremony at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of San Isidro Labrador in Bulacan.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, January 9, 2024, Robi has uploaded a set of photos—the first one shows a picture frame of him and his lola back in the day and the second one shows him and now-wife Maiqui visiting her wake.
The caption reads, “January 6 was the happiest day of my life. My heart was filled with immense gratitude-from preps in the morning, to the ceremony, to the reception which lasted until dawn.
“As I was about to leave the place, my mom was sobbing as she tried to tell me that my Lola passed away the same morning. Apparently, my family didn’t tell us so that our focus was our magical day.”
“‘Ina’ as I fondly called her, took care of me especially when I was a toddler. I loved how she made her ube halaya and Leche flan sa llanera.
“Rest in peace, ina. Please look after us together with ama. Thank you, and we love you. [heart emoji]”
Robi has also left a comment under his post that reads, “We wanted to thank a lot of people during the wedding but it has been a rollercoaster ride for us these past few days.
“Our hearts are happy, but we apologize for the delay. We’ll just take a breather from all the happenings. [praying hands emoji]”
Robi and Maiqui got engaged in November 2022 and have dated four years prior to engagement.
In the ensuing year, Maiqui publicized that she has been dealing with a rare form of autoimmune disease called dermatomyositis. At that time, Robi assures that the wedding will still push through.
