Sanya on receiving bashing in the past: “Kahit ako kinuwestiyon ko ron ‘yung sarili ko”
GMA-7’s fantasy series “Encantadia,” is set to make a comeback with its upcoming spin-off, “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre.”
Sanya Lopez, one of the 2016 Sang’gres, has openly expressed her excitement for the new show, as it is in their version where the spin-off is anchored.
In a recent interview with “Updated with Nelson Canlas” podcast, Sanya revealed that she and her fellow 2016 Sang’gres—Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia, and Glaiza de Castro—are all eagerly looking forward to this new chapter of their beloved characters.
Sanya, who portrayed Danaya in the 2016 version of “Encantadia,” expressed her enthusiasm about reprising her role.
“Matagal na ‘to, e. Noong pinag-uusapan pa lang, excited na kaming apat na, ‘Oh, magkikita-kita tayo.’
“But that time, hindi pa namin alam kung sinu-sino ‘yung mga gaganap, kung kami pa din ba, may madadagdag ba, may mababawas ba.“
The highly-anticipated fantasy series has received a lot of buzz lately, with fans eagerly waiting for updates on the show’s complete cast lineup and storyline.
At press time, Sanya is already known to be making a comeback to play the mother of Terra (Bianca Umali), one of the new Sang’gres.
The other new Sang’gres will be portrayed by Angel Guardian, Faith da Silva, and Kelvin Miranda.
On December 31, GMA-7 released a teaser where the 2016 Sang’gres met with the new generation Sang’gres.

Why is Sanya nervous about the spin-off
Sanya admitted that she felt nervous about the revival because she wasn’t sure if their characters would be retained. “Kumbaga ‘yun ‘yung nasa isip namin kasi nandun kami sa point na mahal na mahal namin ‘yung character namin,” she explained.
On February 20, 2024, director Mark dela Cruz posted a photo from behind the scenes of “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre” where Sanya did a scene with Martin del Rosario.

In the interview, Sanya also looked back at the time when she was hurled with negative comments, given that she was still a nobody and a newcomer when the important role of Danaya was given to her.
She recalled, “Masakit sa akin na nakatanggap ako ng hindi magagandang salita. Siyempre, may mga tao talagang magku-question sa ‘yo, e. Kahit ako kinuwestiyon ko ron ‘yung sarili ko.
“Bakit nga ba ako, e, yung mga nakasabayan ko that time, meron [na] silang sari-sariling show, halos lahat. Kumbaga, ako yung galing from talagang extra.”
At the time, Sanya had just finished working on three teleseryes, including “The Half Sisters.” Reflecting on her journey, the Kapuso actress remains thankful to become part of the afternoon series that jumpstarted her career.
“Supposedly, two days lang ang taping ko and it ended up na two years po, tumagal ako sa ‘The Half Sisters,'” Sanya said appreciatively.
