What You Can Do to Get Rid of Body Odor

We’ve all been there before. Body odor comes about every once in a while after a heavy workout or a particularly hot day. It can be embarrassing, but it’s not unfixable. There are a couple things you can try to make sure your body is clean and smelling fresh, so check them out!

Take a thorough shower

Bacteria thrive in the moist corners of your body (think the armpit and groin area), and when you sweat, it reacts with the bacteria and releases a smell that you’d refer to as body odor. Taking thorough and regular showers should help wash the bacteria away and take away some of the smell – but only if you scrub well into your skin folds!

Try antibacterial soap

Antibacterial soap will kill off bacteria and even acne, shockingly. They’re gentle on all skin types, are free of parabens or fragrances, and can even help moisturize the skin. They’re honestly one of the best soaps you can use for your body, so you should probably grab some on your next grocery trip.

Change your wardrobe

No brainer here, but tight clothes make you sweat! More sweat means more reaction with bacteria, which could spell disaster. When it’s particularly hot out, do try to wear loose and breathable clothes for the sake of your B.O. Cotton, linen, and other moisture-wicking fabrics helps sweat evaporate, rather than trapping it in, making your skin feel cooler and less sweaty.

Get the right deodorant

Not all deodorants work right on your body. Some don’t do their job, while others can actually make you sweat more. It’s a bit of a pain, but you should take your time looking over the ingredients of each product you use and noting which ones make you stink. Some have found that natural, organic deodorants with no chemicals and other irritants have changed their underarm game forever.

Watch what you eat

A lot of people will be surprised to find out that B.O. can actually result from the kind of food you eat. Spicy foods, curries, sodas, and alcohol, for example, can make you sweat more. If you’ve had garlicky or onion-y foods, the aroma will definitely carry off in your odor. It’s weird but it’s true. Cut back on this kind of diet and you’ll find that they’ve been your problem all along.
