Fans know him better by the name S.Coups.
Born August 8, 1995 (yes, it’s his birthday today), Choi Seungcheol was bound to win in life. His name does mean a fair win, after all.
The man who fans know as S.Coups is the leader of the K-Pop group SEVENTEEN. His title goes two times over being the group’s general leader and the hip-hop unit’s leader. He’s also part of the SVT Leaders sub-unit with performance unit leader Hoshi and vocal unit leader Woozi.
Beyond his leadership qualities, there’s plenty more to learn about Choi Seungcheol. Here are some facts that you need to know.
The basics
Choi Seungcheol was born in Daegu, a city that’s a three-hour drive from Seoul. He has one older brother, making him the youngest in the family. It’s a fact that surprised fans because S.Coups does well in being the older brother to his group members.
His training helped a lot with that, for sure. Seungcheol was a trainee for Pledis Entertainment for six years. He was supposed to be part of NUEST, but that fell through. He was also a member of Tempest alongside Woozi, but the group was short-lived. By May 26, 2015, S.Coups (and Woozi) debuted as members of SEVENTEEN.
Why fans love Choi Seungcheol
Being the leader of a group as large as SEVENTEEN is awe-inspiring. Choi Seungcheol does it with a perfect balance of being an older brother, a friend, and the person in charge.

that this was love. That this was community. That this
was about a greater good. If the road is long, it

It also doesn’t hurt that he’s charismatic. Mind you, I became a fan of the group during their Clap era. There’s one point in the choreography that drove me (and many others) nuts.
Another thing that fans love about S.Coups is his habit of making you feel like you’re the most important person in the room. There’s an entire Twitter thread about Seunghaengsol. It’s a portmanteau that means Seungcheol’s actions are fluttering.
