Bea makes her big screen comeback via “Sunny”
If Bea Binene could do a reunion project with former co-stars, she would choose her castmates in the youth-oriented series “Tween Hearts.”
It was in 2010 when GMA-7 aired the show every Sunday and kickstarted the careers of Barbie Forteza, Joshua Dionisio, Jake Vargas, Lexi Fernandez, Kristoffer Martin, Joyce Ching, Louise delos Reyes, and Derrick Monasterio. It ran from September 2010 to June 2012.
Bea, who started her career as a contestant in 2004’s “StarStruck Kids,” was a major cast member of the show sharing top billing with Barbie.
Now, 12 years since the project aired its last episode, Bea wishes to be reunited with the tweens.
She told FreebieMNL, “Sana magkaroon ng parang reunion project kasi, di ba, yung ‘Tween Hearts’ dati, high school, like, finding yourself, first love, chururut, ganyan…
“So, sana, alam mo ‘yon, after—actually 12 years na yung ‘Tween Hearts!”
“So, I hope someday, sometime, magkaroon ng chance to really have a project na kung hindi man kumpletong lahat-lahat ay at least, kahit papaano… or kahit hindi man diretsong series.”
Bea thinks they could do a sequel showing how it has been since the last episode—navigating through adult life.
She said, “A project na yung present, yung working na sila, yung mga kung paano nangyari, yung kung kamusta na yung nangyari sa mga characters namin.
“Kasi parang in real life lang, e, na iba-ibang paths na yung tinahak namin so I think it would be nice.”
FreebieMNL spoke to Bea during the mini-press conference with the young cast of “Sunny” on April 1, 2024 at the VIVA Boardroom.
“Sunny,” a movie about high school friendship and reunion in their 40s, is an adaptation of the Korean movie of the same title. It opened in cinemas on April 10, 2024.
Bea plays the high school version of Chona, while Angelu de Leon portrays the older Chona.

Bea’s comeback on the big screen
“Sunny” serves as Bea’s comeback on the big screen after many years of not doing movies.
Bea’s last movie was “Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers” in 2016.
What makes Bea excited for her movie comeback is the ensemble of cast members mixing the ‘90s and the new-gen VIVA babies.
Aside from Bea, playing the younger cast are VIVA stars Heaven Peralejo, Aubrey Caraan, Ashley Diaz, Abby Bautista, Heart Ryan, and Ashtine Olviga.
The older stars—who were all VIVA stars of the ‘90s—are Vina Morales, Angelu de Leon, Sunshine Dizon, Candy Pangilinan, Katya Santos, Tanya Garcia, and Ana Roces.

Bea said of this, “Ang ganda ng cast and nagulat ako, actually, noong ni-release namin yung trailer, ang dami pala talagang fan ng ‘Sunny’ the Korean film.
“Kasi it’s an old movie kahit papaano… I think the original version came out, 2011? So, nakakatuwa na, uy, naalala pa nila yung ‘Sunny.’ Napanood pa nila.
“And the fact na, yun nga, yung mga kasama namin dito, VIVA babies and talagang, kumbaga for everyone kasi yung film na makaka-relate lahat.
“It’s a very heartwarming movie and I’m very excited na sa big screen.”
But Bea admitted that she is also nervous because it’ll be the first time she’ll be seen in a movie after almost 10 years.
She continued, “I’m very excited and at the same time, yung kaba siyempre, nandun. Lalo na ito pa lang ulit yung movie na lalabas sa akin, na big screen, like, after the pandemic. So, yung pressure, yung kaba, nandun.
“Now, yung movie ticket prices, it’s a splurge. You have to spend a little more than before.
“But I’m very excited kasi trailer pa lang maganda na. Maraming makaka-relate at may ibang countries na in-adapt din yung movie and ngayon, dito sa Philippines na.
“So, I hope that we’ll make everyone proud also. Kahit yung teacher ko, kasi nag-aaral akong Korean, di ba? So, yung teacher ko, nagulat siya na, ‘Talaga ba? Yung ‘Sunny,’ i-a-adapt niyo?’
“Tapos na-excite din siya na parang oh my gosh, isasama niya raw yung mga friends niya kasi nga maganda and fan din sila nung original version.”
