Derrick clears his name out of the circulating gay rumor
Sparkle artist Derrick Monasterio has cleared off the ongoing tittle-tattle surrounding his sexuality during the January 2, 2024 episode of GMA-7’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.”

Together with girlfriend Elle Villanueva, Derrick has graced an interview and answered a series of questions from Boy Abunda—one of which is about the ongoing rumor about the actor’s sexual orientation.
Before proceeding to the question, Boy emphasizes that the question is just to clarify the “lingering speculation,” and that there’s nothing wrong with being gay just as there is nothing wrong with being straight.
Derrick gives a firm “No” when asked by Boy if he is gay.
According to Derrick, the rumor itself does not faze him at all; what bothers him more is, he says, “Ginagamit nilang pang-asar ‘yung pagiging bakla, e, wala namang masama dun.”
More so, Derrick emphasizes how people need to be more accepting and tolerant when it comes to topics as such.
Derrick says,”Siguro, kailangan mas maging open-minded na ang mga tao ngayon na hindi masama…hindi okay ‘pag gagamitin mong pang-asar ‘yung pagiging bakla, pagiging mataba, pagiging pangit. Kasi there’s no such things, e, illusion lang ‘yun ng mga tao.”
Elle Villanueva once doubted Derrick Monasterio’s sexuality
In the same interview, Elle was also asked how such a rumor affected her relationship with Derrick.

As for Elle, she once doubted Derrick’s sexuality and asked herself, “Gay ba talaga siya,” since that’s what everybody was saying. However, the actress later realized that Derrick had grown up in a gay-dominated environment, thus explaining his soft and effeminate nuances.
Recalling one funny moment, Elle has also shared about how she used to tell her mom that Derrick is gay, just so she could spend time with the actor.
Elle says, “Sinabi ko kay Mommy, ‘Mommy, bakla siya.’ You don’t have to worry.”
While laughing, Derrick seconds Elle’s revelation that he was so confused the first time he met Elle’s mom, since she came to know him as gay.
Derrick shares, “Hindi ko alam yung ia-act ko nung na-meet ko yung Mom niya. Dapat ba, medyo malambot?”
Derrick has publicized his relationship with Elle in August 2023. At that time, the actor revealed in an interview with PEP.ph that he’s been officially dating Elle for three months already.
Derrick and Elle are set to headline the upcoming afternoon series “Makiling,” which is set to air on January 8, 2024.
