Given the chance, SB19’s Felip says he would like to jam with local rock bands
Felip, also known as Ken in SB19, takes on new challenges as he debuted his first solo project, hip-hop album “COM•PLEX” — a deviation from the P-pop genre he has become most known for.
Felip Jhon Suson in real life, the SB19 member reveals in an interview that metal and rock had always been strong influences in his music tastes, which are reflected in his breakthrough project.

If he could make music with other local acts, he said his top choices would be Urbandub, The Juans, and Slapshock.
SLAP x FELIP?
In a separate interview, Chelsea Alley guitarist Lean Ansing said he is open to anything.
Lean is one of the ex-Slapshock members who formed Chelsea Alley after the passing of its vocalist Jamir Garcia.
But Lean admits: “It’s surprising, considering our worlds are far apart.”
Lean said a collaboration may be challenging to both musicians but he would love to produce rock or heavy music because of their familiarity.

Felip’s other influences
Aside from rock and metal, Felip said he is also inspired by Post Malone’s style, which he incorporated into his album.
Felip says he is also fond of listening to jazz, Latin, and gospel music. Both his grandfather and father are pastors.
Going back to the album, the combination of trap, metal, and jazz in his new sound made the album “complex,” Felip says.
The album’s goal is to encourage its listeners to fight life’s negativity and believe in one’s capability and confidence. Through the album’s songs, Felip wants to spread the positive vibes and confidence that he shows while on stage.

Support from A’TIN
While initially worried about the album’s release, the young matinee admitted said he appreciates the A’TIN for their continued support amid SB19 members’ individual ventures.
This, to him, encourages him to be more focused on churning out quality music instead of being affected by negative remarks.
“May iba sa amin na gusto ng ballad lang talaga. But since group kami, in-incorporate namin ‘yun, or kinds of music na pwede naming ilagay sa isang buong kanya,” he ends.
