“Widow’s War” is a spin-off of “Royal Blood” and “Widows’ Web”
According to a showbiz report by GMA-7’s Lhar Santiago for “24 Oras” on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, Bea and Carla will be joined by a set of veteran actors: Tonton Gutierrez, Jackie Lou Blanco, Lito Pimentel, Timmy Cruz, and Jean Garcia.
The mystery-thriller series will also star Mark Herras, Jeric Gonzales, Juancho Triviño, Rita Daniela, Lovely Rivero, and Matthew Uy, with the special participation of Benjamin Alves. James Graham and Charlie Fleming of Sparkle Teens are also set to play significant roles in the said series.
Gabbi Garcia, who was first announced as part of the cast, is no longer included in the story conference and cast announcement. This came even after Gabbi was already shown in the first teaser of the series.
Considered as a spin-off of GMA-7’s “Royal Blood” and “Widows’ Web,” the series will run under the helm of Zig Dulay—the director behind “Maria Clara at Ibarra” and Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 Best Picture “Firefly.”
“Widows’ War” story conference
“Widows’ War” held its story conference on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, wherein Bea and Carla were joined by the rest of the cast and creatives to discuss the plot of the series and the characters that they will play.
Bea then expressed what she likes about the series, saying, “Hindi lang siya single-plotted. Maraming plots na ita-tackle so makaka-relate kayo. Posibleng maintriga kayo. Posibleng maki-chismis lang kayo sa pinagdadaanan ng bawat character.”
For Carla, she deemed the series as a catalyst for her growth. As she puts it, “Maganda po yun because it’s for my growth. Nacha-challenge po ako. At least hindi ako yung naka-mold lang sa iisang… you know, I can play around. I love it kasi kumbaga, mas napapanood nila yung ibang Carla in a way.”
Bea Alonzo, Carla excited to work with each other
Bea says that it is without discretion that she wants to work with Carla. She shares, “I’ve always been vocal about wanting to work with Carla and Zig for so long, and it’s finally happening. And I know that we have a very strong and beautiful script and excellent cast.
Karla, on the other hand, shares, “Ever since naman po yan and of course nung nag-transfer po siya sa GMA, parang feeling ko mas within reach na po yung opportunity. So, I’m very thankful na nabuo ito and we were given the chance to finally work together.
Carla is currently headlining the GMA Afternoon Prime series “Stolen Life,” while Bea was fresh from the run of GMA Network and Viu Philippines’ “Love Before Sunrise.”
