Jake said that reconnecting with Chie at the Star Magic Christmas Ball “felt like something from a movie.”
A month after Chie Filomeno revealed that she and Jake Cuenca had been dating, Jake shared his reasons for pursuing the actress.
According to the actor, Chie is “the one that got away.”
In an interview with MJ Marfori on September 23, Jake revealed, “In so many ways, she’s kinda like the one that got away for me.”
The actor admitted that he and the star had dated before reconnecting last year. “Kasi we dated na before. A long time ago… She was in ‘Showtime’ already, she was already dancing in ‘Showtime,'” he added.

Jake talked about their reconnection at the Star Magic Christmas Ball in 2022 when he approach her. He related the experience to a scene from a movie.
“I went up to her, naglakas-loob ako. It was the Christmas Ball of Star Magic. It was not the plan, it’s biglaan talaga. It felt like something from a movie,” Jake shared.
“I have so many things to do that day. I went to The Eddys with Ma’am Charo. Ang dami kong ginawa.
“And again, I was just gonna go to the Ball just to give my respect to Direk Lauren Dyogi, say hi to the bosses, and get out of there. That was my thing naman, but I saw her, and I stayed.”

Chie confirmed her relationship with Jake in August. She emphasized taking her time before officially becoming his girlfriend to ensure they were both “ready and fully committed.”
In April 2022, Jake confirmed his separation from Kylie Verzosa. The two had been in a relationship for three years. In May 2019, Chie revealed to PUSH that she had been in a four-year relationship with Alex Diaz before their break-up.
