Kelvin Miranda: “Wala naman akong gustong bastusin”
Sparkle artist Kelvin Miranda issued an apology for chewing gum during his public appearances to promote his movie, “After All.”
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the 25-year-old actor responded to netizens’ displeased reaction towards his actions through his social media accounts.
In his apology, Kelvin addressed that his actions did not mean to disrespect nor offend anyone, but it is simply a habit he uses to calm his nerves when in public.
The actor admits he is still not used to his celebrity life, hence, he still feels nervous on certain occasions.
He said (published as is), “Opo ako nga po ito. Kalma lang po kayo, wala naman akong gustong bastusin or tapakan na moral dito.
“Sakin lang ay bago pa po sakin ang pakiramdam ng lahat di ko alam paano i handle ang emosyon at lahat ng pangyayare. Idinaan ko nalang sa pag che-chewing gum.”
In the end, “After All” star acknowledges the criticism thrown at him and promises to change his way of coping up to the tension of being in the limelight.
He continued (published as is), “Pero wag kayo mag aalala humihingi ako ng pasensya sa lahat at hindi na mauulit. Naging coping mechanism ko siya which is not good.
“Hindi ko siya ginagawa para magmukhang gwapo or pagpapagwapo sadyang duon ko binubuhos ang panginginig ng katawan ko dahil sa dala ng nerbiyos. Hirap ako i manage ang nararamdaman ko nung mga oras na yun.
“Again pasensya na sa lahat ng nakapuna. Salamat sa pag puna nito gawin kong aral at hindi na masundan pa ng ibang pagkakataon.”

The chewing gum incident
Netizens pointed out two incidents where they saw Kelvin chewing gum while appearing in public.
First was at the premiere night of “After All” on Monday, February 26, 2024, where the cameras caught him chewing gum beside his leading lady, Beauty Gonzalez. The video has circulated on TikTok, garnering side-eyes and negative comments from netizens.

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, netizens called him out once again when he exhibited the same action by chewing gum during his guesting on “It’s Showtime,” again with Beauty.
It was Kelvin’s first time to appear in the Kapamilya variety show which also airs on GMA-7’s sister channel, GTV.

Comments online presumed that his behavior is “rude”, “papogi”, or “parang goat,” which could have urged Kelvin to write an apology.
Kelvin’s career began in 2016. His breakthrough role was in the Netflix original film “Dead Kids.”
In 2021, Kelvin got his first lead role in the GTV series “The Lost Recipe” followed by “Loving Miss Bridgette” where he was first paired with Beauty.
“After All,” which opened in cinemas on February 28, served as his follow-up project with Beauty after the success of their afternoon series.
Kelvin’s next big project is playing the role of Adamus in the upcoming spin-off of “Encantadia,” titled “Sang’gre.”
