In February 2021, Jenny announced that her first young adult series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” will be adapted into an Amazon Studios series. Aside from writing the pilot episode, she will also serve as an executive producer for the show. “‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ is many years in the making, and I’m so excited to tell Belly’s story in 2021,” she said.
Jenny also said that it will be worth the wait for fans who’ve been waiting for a screen adaptation for over a decade already. The first book in the series was published in 2009, while the last book was published in 2011.
“For the longtime book fans, I think it will have been worth the wait. For those newly discovering the Summer series, I hope you fall in love with these characters and this place that is so dear to my heart.”
Deadline revealed that a total of twelve actors have already been cast for the show: Lola Tung as the main character Belly, Christopher Briney as Conrad, Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah, Jackie Chung as Laurel, and Rachel Blanchard as Susannah.
Other series regulars include Sean Kaufman as Steven, Minnie Mills as Shayla, and Alfredo Narciso as Cleveland.
Meanwhile, the following actors will play the roles of recurring characters: Summer Madison as Nicole, David Iacono as Cam, Rain Spencer as Taylor, and Tom Everett Scott as Adam.
While there’s no release date yet, Jenny teased “The Summer I Turned Pretty” fans with a photo from “Day 1” of filming for the series featuring Lola and Sean in character as the Conklin siblings. “Get in loser, we’re going to Cousins,” she posted on Instagram.
