Spotify has listened to Adele and the many other artists who requested to change one thing on the app: the default shuffle button in albums.
With this new feature, pressing the green and black “play” button when listening to a single album will now play the songs in order based on their track listing, instead of in random order. Listeners can still shuffle an album, though–they just have to click the “shuffle” toggle found on the lower left side of the screen once the album starts to play.
“We are excited to share that we have begun rolling out a new Premium feature that has been long requested by both users and artists to make ‘play’ the default button on all albums,” Spotify told CNN.
“For those users still wishing to shuffle an album, they can go to the ‘Now Playing’ View and select the ‘shuffle’ toggle. As always, we will continue to iterate our products and features to create the best experiences for both artists and their fans.”
On Twitter, Adele thanked the streaming platform for changing the default option on the app, saying that the order of the songs in an album plays an important part in telling a story.
“This was the only request I had in our ever-changing industry! We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason,” she said. “Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you, Spotify, for listening.”
Spotify replied to the 33-year-old singer, saying, “Anything for you ðŸ™âœ¨.”
Adele’s fourth studio album, “30,” is currently number one on Spotify’s Top Albums Debut Global chart. Songs from her album also dominated the Top Songs Debut Global chart, with “Oh My God,” “Can I Get It,” and “My Little Love” at the top of the list.
