Elha Nympha’s recent single “Do It”, released earlier this month, has successfully established her new role as a budding R&B princess.
As the champion of The Voice Kids season 2 in 2015, the former child singer has been known to belt out song covers with her impressive high-pitched voice and commanding stage presence.
Her previous studio album released in 2016, self-titled Elha, did well with best-selling songs “Susunduin”, “Emotions”, and “Love on Top”.
Now, 16-year old Nympha and her sound have matured into a smoother, more soulful R&B tone. In the song, she sings of young love and infatuation. Lines like “When I think of you/ I just melt away” and “Feels surreal like I’m swimming in the night sky/Drowning ‘cause of those eyes” remind us of love at its sweetest and most vulnerable.
The release of her single marks her comeback under MCA Music, Inc. and the reveal of a grown-up, more sophisticated sound. Nympha herself described her excitement at recording a completely new type of music.
“I’m happy with where the direction of my music is going,” Nympha said in a statement. “This is exactly the kind of music that I want to keep making — something that is young and current, but very much me.”
The song itself is reminiscent of popular musicians Jhene Aiko, SZA, and H.E.R., with its velvety vocals and fluid melody. Lyrics about love and all the things that come with it further bolster the song’s potential star power.
While Nympha considers the comparison to current R&B queens a compliment, she does, however, stand by making her own legacy, saying: “For now, I’m ready for where this journey would take me, musically. I’m definitely looking forward to creating something that is original and unique.”
