What happens when two of the biggest and fiercest kaiju in history collides in an ultimate battle?
Utter chaos and destruction. And that’s just based on the brief two-and-a-half-minute trailer of the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong which Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures released on Sunday.
If you weren’t too trained on the vicious battle scenes between Godzilla and Kong, the trailer also gives fans a glimpse on Kong’s protectors, who help the monster find his real home; an orphan child named Jia who is the only one who can speak to Kong; and a yet-to-be-revealed “motive” that’s “provoking” Godzilla’s patterned attack on humankind.
And then there’s the battle scenes: an epic fight on the sea aboard an aircraft carrier, an epic fight in the city, and an epic fight in the mountains. Everything about this movie just screams EPIC.
Godzilla vs. Kong is the fourth installation in Legendary Picture’s MonsterVerse which started with the 2014 reboot of Godzilla, followed by 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019. It’s directed by Alex Wingard (You’re Next, V/H/S, Netflix’s Death Note) and stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, and Kyle Chandler.
If you’re excited about the colossal confrontation, here’s another reason to get even more pumped: as first broken by Entertainment Weekly last week, the movie’s release date got bumped up two months earlier than originally planned. That means Godzilla vs. Kong will premier both in theaters and on HBO Max on March 26 instead of May 21.
This is more than enough to get kaiju fans in a frenzy. Some are even picking teams as early as now, including basketball star Kevin Durant (he’s team Zilla, btw):
I can’t see Godzilla losing this matchup…. https://t.co/ylDfNdyMqk

Meanwhile, some couldn’t care who wins — they’re just hyped about the fight (or about Kyle Chandler):
Kyle Chandler has been in a Godzilla movie, a Kong movie, and now a Godzilla vs Kong movie.

Leaked ending of Godzilla vs King Kong:
— Justin Whang ? (@JustinWhang) January 25, 2021
Godzilla pins King Kong with a German suplex and thinks he’s won, but it turns out both their shoulders were touching the mat, causing a draw and setting up Godzilla vs King Kong 2.
Im not watching that King Kong vs Godzilla trailer… I refuse to.

I’m going in there not having watched a single frame and crying at how dope it’s going to be.
Who do you have your money on: Godzilla or Kong?
