Many of Starbucks’ most popular drinks are unsurprisingly high in calories and added sugars. The good news is that you could always customize your drinks to make them somewhat healthier. Order these instead if you’re looking for a low-calorie alternative to your favorite drink or looking to cut back on your sugar intake.
A Grande Caffè Misto contains 110 calories and is a 1:1 ratio of freshly brewed coffee and steamed milk. Replacing the milk with a non-dairy option may lower the sugar content while asking for a pump of sugar-free syrup adds flavor.
Starbucks’ caramel macchiato hits the spot for those who prefer their coffee sweet. The beverage can be enjoyed hot or iced and combines freshly heated milk, vanilla syrup, espresso and topped with a caramel drizzle. A tall order with non-fat milk is only 150 calories.
This coffee is normally served unsweetened, but the Vanilla Sweet Cream variant doesn’t disappoint either. Plain cold brew is created by steeping ground coffee in cool water for roughly two days. A Grande-sized cup only has 5 calories, while the creamier beverage has 100 calories in a Tall cup.
Iced Brewed Coffee
Iced brewed coffee is an excellent choice for hot days. This is one of the healthier Starbucks drinks, with an estimated 60 calories when served sweetened over ice. Adding non-fat milk or soy milk to your Tall cup only brings your order to 80 calories.
You can still get one of their signature Frappuccino in Vanilla, Coffee, or Caramel at 110-130 calories for a Tall. Skipping the whipped cream and substituting regular milk for non-fat or non-dairy will make it a lighter alternative without sacrificing taste.
Matcha Green Tea Latte
Green tea has long been linked with weight loss. But if you can’t stand the taste of brewed tea leaves, a lightly sweetened matcha with steamed non-fat milk should do the trick. Enjoy a hot or iced Tall cup for only 140 calories.
