After much speculation, the Apple Vision Pro is coming!
Apple has been known to come up with revolutionary technology for years on end now. Their upcoming headset meant for AR/VR (augmented reality/virtual reality), is shaping up to be no exception. Tagged initially through speculation as Reality Pro, it has officially been announced as Apple Vision Pro.
Calling it their “first spatial computer,” Apple released a statement that reads, in part:
“[Apple Vision Pro] seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world, while allowing users to stay present and connected to others. Vision Pro creates an infinite canvas for apps that scales beyond the boundaries of a traditional display and introduces a fully three-dimensional user interface controlled by the most natural and intuitive inputs possible — a user’s eyes, hands, and voice.”
Apple CEO Tim Cook points out that it’s “the first Apple product you look through, not at.”
Aside from the official announcement, Tim also stated that: “Just as the Mac introduced us to personal computing, and iPhone introduced us to mobile computing, Apple Vision Pro introduces us to spatial computing. Built upon decades of Apple innovation, Vision Pro is years ahead and unlike anything created before — with a revolutionary new input system and thousands of groundbreaking innovations.”
visionOS
Vision Pro runs on an operating system entirely its own: visionOS. There is no controller whatsoever and this is what allows users to scroll through apps as they use the headset. Tapping and flicking as one would on their mobile device or tablet is just one way to do it; voice commands also work just as well.
According to Apple, it will be easy to become a virtual reality pro as “hundreds of thousands of familiar iPhone and iPad apps” will work automatically with VIsion Pro.
The starting price of Apple Vision Pro is $3,499 and it will be available early next year on their website and US Apple stores. It will eventually roll out to other countries.
