Do pesky flakes on your hair and scalp weigh down your confidence level? According to the University of Michigan, while having dandruff doesn’t have any medically serious repercussions, it does pose an aesthetic problem. There are a lot of products in the market that claim to reduce visible dandruff, but what do the experts recommend for you to do?
As per The Cut, here are some methods you can try to rid yourself of dandruff for good:
- Change your diet. New York-based dermatologist Dr. Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas said that poor nutrition can lead to dandruff. That’s why you should avoid food items that are high in sugar and carbohydrates.
- Try a hot oil mask. Dr. Jessica Weiser of New York Dermatology Group claimed that oil-based treatments can help to balance some of the scalp’s excessive oil production. You can heat some coconut oil in the microwave, and then apply it to your hair. Just make sure it’s not too hot so you won’t burn your scalp.
- Use apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar has a plethora of practical uses, and one of them is to get rid of pesky dandruff. Just mix half a cup of it together with one and a half cup of cool water. Apply and leave it on for about 5 minutes after you shampoo. Then rinse your hair as you normally would.
- Seek help from a dermatologist. If you experience a lot of itching, inflammation, and if dandruff shampoo just doesn’t work on you, consider seeking the help of a dermatologist. A licensed professional will be able to give you the best solution for your annoying hair problem.
While dandruff can be quite embarrassing, just remember that you don’t have to live with it forever. All you need is to try these methods to see which one works for you best. It’ll take some time to see visible results, but all the effort will be worth it in the end. You’ll be able to flip your hair without worries soon enough.
