The milk crate challenge is the internet’s most ridiculous stunt of the year, and it’s a sure way to get end up in the hospital.
Watching people fall off stacks of milk crates reminds us of the times we’d stay up watching Jackass on MTV. “Don’t try this at home,” the show warns, yet you’ll find videos of people on YouTube disregarding it, anyway. The milk crate challenge is treading a similar path, and TikTok is putting an end to it.
What is the milk crate challenge?
For those who aren’t aware, the milk crate challenge involves crossing a makeshift staircase that’s built plastic crates. In case you’re wondering, 49 pieces are needed to complete the pyramid structure. It’s usually assembled on uneven surfaces or concrete floors, increasing the difficulty and danger of traversing the already unstable stack.
Proceed at your own risk
The hashtag #MilkCrateChallenge has been banned on TikTok, and the company released an official statement to Fast Company. “TikTok prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts, and we remove videos and redirect searches to our Community Guidelines to discourage such content. We encourage everyone to exercise caution in their behavior whether online or off,” responded the spokesperson. Regardless, the trend has reached other social media platforms, intriguing millions of viewers globally.

Why shouldn’t you do the milk challenge?
It should go without saying that the risk is not worth the reward — the reward probably being internet clout. Most of those who dare take on the challenge end up badly injuring themselves with torn ligaments, fractured bones, and dislocated joints. Snoop Dogg even dubs this dangerous trend the “bridge of death,” and he isn’t wrong.
Although we regulate milk, we can't recommend you try that. Perhaps enjoy a nice glass of 2% and return all those crates to the grocery store?

Conquering the pyramid is not an impossible task since there have been successful attempts, including one woman who did it in heels. Still, there’s a better use for those milk crates, like an upcycled plant box or a home organizer.
