Celebrities flocked to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday evening for the 2021 MET Gala dressed to the nines. This year’s theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” and the annual gala saw its fair share of old Hollywood glam, extravagant Western-inspired getups, and literal statement pieces. And, of course, the exclusive event wouldn’t be complete if Ms. Rihanna didn’t grace us with her presence.
The Rihanna Gala
Throughout the years, Rihanna’s MET Gala appearances proved she is a force to be reckoned with. Who could forget her bright yellow-fur trimmed cape in 2015 or her Catholic-inspired dress and headpiece from 2018? Even before she arrived at this year’s event, she became the highest trending celebrity in the United States, which speaks volumes on her influence. “At this point, this is the Rihanna Gala,” host Keke Palmer remarked.
Save the Best for Last
Everyone was devastated at the thought of a no-show RiRi, especially when other anticipated icons like Blake Lively and Zendaya were also not in attendance. The red carpet began at 5:30 PM, but it wasn’t until 10 PM that the Fenty founder finally arrived at the venue. If there’s anyone who gets a pass for being fashionably late, it would be this bad gal. It turns out she just got off her shoot for her Savage x Fenty Vol. 3 show.
Rihanna didn’t make her grand entrance alone, as she waltzed in with beau, A$AP Rocky. The couple brought comfort and style to the MET steps with their high-fashion ensemble only they could pull off. She caught everyone’s attention dressed in a Balenciaga overcoat, diamond layered hairpiece, and her signature dark lipstick, she caught everyone’s attention, but the American rapper’s quilted ERL cape didn’t go unnoticed, as well.
What a way to close out the night! There were plenty of interesting looks at the 2021 MET Gala, and the internet sure had a lot to say about it.
