K-Pop Star Minzy Dances To SB19’s “Gento”

Former 2NE1 member Minzy’s “Gento” cover has been a hot topic on social media

In a moment where K-pop meets P-pop, South Korean idol Minzy took part in a dance challenge set to a song by Filipino boy band SB19.

Minzy, best known as a member of the now-disbanded K-pop girl group 2NE1, danced to SB19’s “Gento,” as seen in a video posted Sunday, July 2, 2023, on her social media accounts.

The video has almost 900,000 views and some 23,000 likes on Twitter as of this writing.

“The challenge that Dara taught me,” Minzy wrote in Korean on Twitter, referring to her 2NE1 bandmate Sandara Park.

SB19’s main vocalist Stell replied to Minzy’s Twitter post, thanking the K-pop star for dancing to his group’s song.

Minzy likewise posted her dance cover on Instagram and TikTok. As of this writing, Minzy’s TikTok video has over 175,000 views.

Meanwhile, Sandara shared a longer reaction on Minzy’s Instagram post.

“[Thumbs up emoji] me?! I need more time to practice [laughing emoji] Minzy and I used to be in different class during trainee days pa [laughing emoji],” Dara wrote.

The catchy “Gento” is among the six tracks comprising SB19’s extended play, “Pagtatag,” released in June.

Last month, Minzy went to the Philippines for a solo concert at the New Frontier Theater titled “Glee in Manila.”

Minzy debuted with 2NE1 in 2009 and are the hitmakers behind “FIRE,” “I Don’t Care,” and “I Am The Best.” 

She likewise debuted as a solo artist under Viva in 2020. As a solo artist, Minzy’s top songs include “NINANO,” “Superwoman,” and “Flashlight.”

Aside from Minzy, other members of the former 2nd generation K-Pop group have individually visited the country for various engagements. The groups’s leader CL previously came to the country in 2022 as part of the “Hallyuween 2022.”

The group’s lead vocal Park Bom also came to the country in 2022 as part of the “Popstival” event. Sandara for her part consistently visits the country to meet with her friends.
