Mavy Legaspi Speaks Up About Hosting “Eat Bulaga!”

Why did Mavy Legaspi accept “Eat Bulaga!” hosting job?

Mavy Legaspi sees hosting “Eat Bulaga!” as an opportunity for his growth as an artist.

On Monday, June 5, Mavy was introduced as one of the newest hosts of “Eat Bulaga!” with Paolo Contis, Betong, Buboy Villar, and Mavy’s twin sister, Cassy Legaspi.

They served as the new hosts after the original “Eat Bulaga!” led by Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, decided to “disengage” themselves from TAPE Inc. and leave the show.

In an interview with FreebieMNL and other reporters before the press conference proper of “Luv Is: Love At First Read” on June 8, 2023 at Novotel, Mavy says that he is “very happy” with what he has done so far for the show.

He adds, “I always say na lagi ko inuuna yung trabaho ko and it’s always a lesson for me to always improve my skills dito sa paghu-host, just to make people happy, magbigay ng premyo.

“I was just called on for the job and trabaho lang. And again, ang priority ko palagi is always my work and my improvement and I feel like this is a venue where I can improve for a better future and also, ma-hone yung skills ko.”

Mavy Legaspi on accepting the hosting stint

According to Mavy, it was not an easy thought process when he was offered the hosting stint in “Eat Bulaga!”

But at the end of the day, he knows that it is for his growth as an artist.

The 22-year-old Sparkle artist says, “Siyempre, talagang hindi mawawala yung thought process na iniisip talaga kung tatanggapin or not.

“But again, I always go back to this, saan ako mag-i-improve, how will I improve my hosting, how will I improve my connection to the Pinoy viewers, to the Pinoy in the studio.

“And with myself, I know that I will make them happy and that was the easiest thing for me to do, it’s just to think about the happiness of the people kasi siyempre, may mga pa-premyo.

What was the reaction of his parents: Zoren Legaspi and Carmina Villarroel?

Mavy answers, “Si Papa talaga yung nag-push po sa amin. Siyempre, yung mom ko po, ever since, may personal na [connection] with the OG, so, siyempre, she was sensitive on that part.

“But parehas sila nag-agree na this is for our skills, it’s just to improve our skills, to improve our work, and again, yung pinaka goal naman talaga whatever is going on is just to make people happy.”

Admittedly, Mavy got nervous when the project was first offered to him.

He explains, “Ako, lagi ko iniisip the safety and the peace of my family and, of course, my very own peace. So may kaba but noong nasa loob na ng studio, it was very happy.

“I saw the joy, the excitement, the audience and that really got me going. Yan yung pinakaimportante sa akin na yung mga studio audience at kaming mga hosts, masaya po kami sa loob.

“Whatever happens paglabas na ng studio, wala na ako doon. Basta nagawa ko na yung trabaho ko, I showed up and day by day, I’m improving my skills and yan yung importante sa akin.”

Bashers

The first day of the revamped “Eat Bulaga!” was met with bashing and negative comments from the fans of the original version with TVJ as hosts.

Some are saying that the original hosts will never be replaced by the new hosts and that they did not match the energy “Eat Bulaga!” once had.

Did Mavy read comments from netizens about the revamped show?

“Of course, there are times when you will read, but I choose not to dahil kung anuman yung naco-comment nila is not really on me, it’s on another scale na hindi po ako kasali doon.

“So, like what everyone says and what my mom says, you just choose your battles and this is not mine, I’m just here to work and to improve my skills, always.”

In fact, from the get-go, Mavy did not have apprehensions in accepting the job just because of negative comments.

He explains, “Hindi po, humbly po saying hindi po ako natakot dahil nga hindi ko po yun fight, it’s not my battle, it’s not my place po.

Hindi po ako nanggaling sa OG siyempre, I have no history with them, so, wala talaga.

“[But] as human being, who loves hate comments? Who loves bashing? But again, it’s not my battle, so I’m just here to prove myself.”

Mavy was also asked to give a message to the viewers of “Eat Bulaga!” who are bashing them just because they suddenly took over the show.

Ako, masasabi ko lang po talaga na nagtatrabaho lang po and I hope you give us a chance, like yung sinabi ni Kuya Paolo (Contis), we will never be them, we will never be… I respectfully, humbly say we will never be TVJ.

“We will never try to beat them or to go over yung nabigay nila sa mga Kapuso, sa lahat ng viewers.

Yun, trabaho lang and I hope you give us a chance and, of course, I hope that you see na our job is just to make Pinoys happy, most especially our studio audience, and once you’re in there, it’s a different feeling and all I can think about is just making people happy.”
