Mel vows to uphold journalistic excellence through “24 Oras”
Veteran journalist and highly regarded news anchor Mel Tiangco reaffirms her commitment for public service as she renews her ties with GMA Integrated News on April 2, 2024.
Mel’s indelible print in the field of public affairs is strengthened by her three decades of experience—standing at the forefront of news for the interest of the masses.
Best known for her flagship newscasts “Saksi” and “Frontpage: Ulat Ni Mel Tiangco,” she has also been a pillar of “24 Oras” which has hit its 20th year on air this 2024.
The “24 Oras” anchor’s contract-signing event was graced by GMA Network executives: Chairman Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, President and CEO Gilberto Duavit Jr., Chief Financial Officer Felipe Yalong, and Head of GMA Integrated News, Regional TV, and Synergy Oliver Victor Amoroso.
Atty. Gozon has aired his admiration for the anchor, saying that Mel’s transfer to GMA-7 has been a pivotal moment for Mel to develop her craft even more.
As he puts it, “Si Mel Tiangco ay accomplished at popular na bago siya lumipat sa Channel 7 noong 1996 or 28 years ago. Pero nung nakalipat na siya, lalo siyang gumaling at lalong naging popular sa kanyang pagiging news anchor ng mga evening news program ng GMA, lalo na ng ating top-rating program na ‘24 Oras.’”
Atty. Gozon has also emphasized that much more than being an “icon” in the field of reporting, Mel’s name stands as a household name comparable to an established “institution.”
Gilberto Duavit shares the same sentiment, saying that Mel’s love for her craft is a force that moves him personally.
He says, “I have known Mel for many years, and after listening to the messages from her colleagues, naaalala ko na napaka-bukod tangi niya. She is so gifted, so kind, so sharing, so good at what she does. She is an inspiration not only to her colleagues. To me, she serves as a great inspiration.”

Mel owed her well-regarded pedestal in newscasting to the people—to the avid viewers who are continuously supporting ‘24 Oras.”
She says, “Mula sa kaibuturan ng puso ko, maraming-maraming salamat po sa patuloy na pagtangkilik ninyo sa ‘24 Oras.’ Ang appreciation ko po d’yan ay hindi mabibilang sa pasasalamat…”
More so, Mel vows, “Patuloy po naming gagampanan ang aming tungkulin para sa inyong lahat saan mang lugar kayo sa buong mundo. Kayo’y makakaasa na inyong mapagkakatiwalaan talaga ang ‘24 Oras.’”
Aside from GMA-7’s flagship newscast, Mel also brings touching stories through award-winning drama anthology “Magpakailanman.” She also serves as an ambassador and special adviser for GMA-7’ socio-civic arm Kapuso Foundation.
