Paulo first fell victim to content piracy in 2020
Paulo Avelino slammed the illegal distribution of films and television shows, saying that piracy is inflicting damage to the entertainment industry and the creatives behind content production.
On Thursday, February 22, 2024, the actor saw an opportunity to air his thoughts on the matter after an X (formerly Twitter) user replied to his tweet.
Paulo was initially replying to Kim Chiu about a TikTok video they made for the promotion of their upcoming Viu series “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.”
@viuphilippines Us everytime you download the Viu app or visit our website to watch the #WWWSKTeaser ?? Let the kilig continue as we wait for the drop of the #ViuOriginalAdaptation #WhatsWrongWithSecretaryKim! Coming this March, watch it exclusively on Viu! # #WWWSKPH #KimPau #KimPauOnViu ? original sound – Viu Philippines
After the video reached a surprising number of views, Kim could not help but celebrate with Paulo. Her tweet reads, “2M views in less than 24 hous boss @mepauloavelino paano ba yan? I think ikaw naman ang sumayaw sa next TikTok ako naman ang mag-chips! Deal???”
For Paulo’s part, he is very much willing to take the deal, but with one condition: “Walang pirata na lumabas ng ‘WWWSK’ pag labas sa @Viu_PH.”
He adds, “Kung meron kahit isa … pass na ako.”

A user has then replied to Paulo, saying that it is impossible for “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” not to get pirated.
As a response, Paulo has quote-retweeted the user, as he speaks about the rampant piracy in the entertainment industry.

This is not the first time that Paulo has spoken up about piracy. In 2020, he also slammed the illegal distribution of his Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Fan Girl” directed by Antoinette Jadaone.
Some netizens have also publicized snippets of the film, including Paulo’s frontal nudity scene, executed through prosthetics.
During the film’s Zoom conference in December 2020, Paulo pointed out that the distribution of the scene is harmful to minors, just as it is harmful to the film.
He says, “Unang-una, maawa naman kayo sa mga underage na makakakita. For sure, may mga bata diyan.
“Pangalawa, hindi siya nakakatulong para sa pelikula. Mas na-appreciate ko sana if pinag-usapan na lang and sinabing panuorin iyong ‘Fan Girl,’ may makikita kayo.”
