Apple Watch Undergoes Major Redesign With Apple Watch X

The 10th edition of the Apple Watch might release between 2024 to 2025

In the most recent edition of his “Power On” newsletter, Mark Gurman coins the revamped device as the “Apple Watch X,” echoing the 2017 iPhone X, commemorating ten years of iPhone.

The tech giant unveiled the original Apple Watch in 2014 and launched in 2015. With that, Mark remains uncertain whether the Apple Watch X will release in 2024 or 2025.

Apple is reportedly crafting a slimmer casing for the Apple Watch X, alongside new bands to attach to the device. The existing band attachment mechanism has been the same since the gadget’s first release. This enabled band compatibility across different Apple Watch generations.

Sources familiar with the development of new Apple Watch models have revealed that the present band system consumes a significant amount of space that could be better utilized for larger batteries or other internal components.

Because of this, Apple is exploring introducing a magnetic band attachment system. The readiness and inclusion of this system in the Apple Watch X remains uncertain.

The impending Apple Watch X could coincide with Apple’s debut of microLED display technology. The new tech will likely surpass the color and clarity of current OLED screens. This iteration might also introduce blood pressure monitoring, a first for the Apple Watch lineup.

Mark also disclosed that the Apple Watch Series 9 will likely feature only a “minor refresh.” It’ll have incremental updates observed in recent years. Anticipated enhancements for the new devices encompass swifter processors and fresh color choices, with few other alterations from the existing models. Mark deems this refresh “arguably the most minor upgrade in the product’s history.”

Apple has reportedly contemplated shifting the Apple Watch from an annual upgrade cycle. The company is also said to be opting for less frequent, more substantial updates. Mark noted that the iPad first followed a yearly upgrade cycle but has now transitioned to a refresh roughly every 18 months.
